About that particular Enoch, or a mimic, there is this:
<http://www.royalprovincial.com/military/rhist/njv/njvlist.htm>
but somehow it doesn't add up. Quite difficult to match up the
Enoch in the military records with any known Enoch. Your missing
generation may be true.

Subject: Re: NJ Coddington lines (18th & 19th centuries)
Jonathan, thanks for your reply. I'm moving on to Enoch b1799 &
Enoch
b~1749.
I've reviewed the "Descendants of Stockdale" site, and also have
Enoch
b1799 in the 1830-1870 censuses. 1840 by the way is:
1840: Codington, Enoch, NJ, Essex Co., M704_251, Elizabethtown
Twp.,
p.383. M: (2) 10-14; (1) 40-49. F: (1) <5; (1) 5-9; (1) 15-19;
(1)
30-39.
There is an Enoch listed in 1779 and 1784 tax lists in Woodbridge
Twp.,
Middlesex Co., NJ, according to the ancestry.com census index. I
have
yet to obtain copies of original docs..
The younger Enoch's burial: "1355. Enoch CODDINGTON, d. 15 Nov
1803, in
54th yr [b]" [INSCRIPTIONS CEMETERY OF THE FIRST PRESBYTERIAN
CHURCH OF
WOODBRIDGE, [MIDDLESEX CO.], NEW JERSEY. Gathered & compiled by
Freeman
Worth Gardner Woodbridge, New Jersey 1917. Transcribed by Jane
Devlin.
Graves 801 to 1634.
woodbridge_nj_cem2.htm>].
I have some sources (from books mostly) on NJ Coddingtons, but
not too
much helpful in them. I'm also beginning to wonder if there's a
possibility of a missing generation - the three known children's
birthdates are when he is 45-55 years old. Presumably Mary would
have
been significantly younger.
Are there other known sources besides the John Insley files at
NEHGS?
I'll probably ask them to pull a bunch of stuff for me at some
point.
Thanks,
Gordon

Is anyone else researching this branch of the Stockdale tree
(Stockdale, John, John, John, Daniel, Enoch, Enoch...)?
I'm starting in on the later generations and trying to locate as much
source material as I can.
Thanks,
Gordon

While it would be great from a researcher's point of view to find full notes and sources in every tree, I agree with this approach from the point of view of someone posting a tree with the purpose of encouraging contact and dialog. Unfortunately, some people don't even look at trees without notes and/or sources, but I do the same thing with my tree because I don't want to miss an opportunity to get contacted and share information with someone researching the same lines. I have enough unique factual information on my tree from my own research that anyone interested would probably be intrigued and send an email. And on the privacy issue, yes it makes sense that people's names. email addresses, etc. should only be posted in a public place with their permission.
