As far as I know, Rose was the child of Thomas Longdon and Elizabeth
Cockshott. The 1900 census that shows Rose on it, also shows that Elizabeth
had 11 children, 7 of whom where still living. The obit doesn't mention her
deceased children. The obit for Elizabeth states she has 7 children all
living, BUT it only names six of them. This indicates there was another
child, but the editor omitted the name, likely in error. That wasn't
uncommon then and still isn't today. According to family legend, there were
two children born to this couple after Rose Etta. The information is
unsourced in my database because the person who provided the information has
since died and I cannot verify his information. It appeared to have come
from a family bible that we also have not been able to locate. There were
supposed to be a pair of twins who were born 14 Dec 1889 and who died in
infancy. There was also a child name Henry who was born 4 Aug 1881 but we
have no death date for him. The child Emmaline, shown on the 1880 census
record also vanishes without a trace. I have a birth date for her of 14 Nov
1878. Those four children would account for the four not living according
to the 1900 census. That leaves 7 still living, and when you account for
the six listed in the obituary, that still leaves one child missing. That
child would be Rose in my humble opinion. Rose Etta Longdon married John
Edward Rockett and raised a large family. Rose Ellen Smead married William
Elvin Carter and also raised a large family. They were definitely not the
same person.
Rose's obit in the Moberly paper is listed below. Hope this helps you out
some.
MOBERLY MONITOR INDEX AND EVENING DEMOCRAT, 23 NOV 1954.
FUNERAL SERVICES HELD AT HIGBEE FOR MRS. ROSE ROCKETT.
HIGBEE--Funeral services for Mrs. Rose Rockett, who died Saturday morning,
were held yesterday afternoon in the Higbee Methodist Church, of which she
was a member.
The last of a large family, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and
Elizabeth Longdon.
Mrs. Rockett is survived by her husband, John Rockett; seven children,
MRs. William Broaddus, Moberly; Mrs. Paul Richards, Mrs. Joe Murphy and John
Rockett, Jr., Ottumwa, Iowa; Mrs. John Brinson, Rochester, Minn; and Mrs.
Tom Chism and Charles Rockett, Higbee. There are 21 grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren.
Two sons preceded in her death--William Rockett, who died in April 1949,
and George Rockett who died in September 1934. She was buried beside them
in the Higbee cemetery.
Relatives here from out of town for the funeral included Mr. and Mrs.
Raymond Longdon, Clark; Mrs. Etta Armbuster, Ottumwa; Mrs. Christena Murray,
Leavenworth, Kan; Cecil Longdon, Kansas City; and Tom Lloyd, Marvin Lloyd
and Bob Lloyd, Marissa, Ill.
There are a group of cousins who are studying the descendants of this
family, but so far, to my knowledge, we have not linked with any of Rose's
descendants. We also have a cousin who descends from and has studied the
Smead line extensively. If she has not already replied to this post, I'm
sure she will. If not, let me know and I'll try to connect you to her.

I know I'm replying to a very old post - I hope you're still on Ancestry. I
see that Elizabeth's obit says she had 7 children; the last child according
to the 1900 census, Rose Etta, is not mentioned. I had wondered if perhaps
Rose was not a child of this marriage, and this would seem to support that
idea. Do you know who Rose's parents were? Is she the same Rose who was
the first child of Elizabeth's daughter Mary Ellen Smead? If so, the
birthdays do not match. I'd appreciate any help anyone has to offer.
