Hi there
thanks for your email - whilst the Cockshoot name is pretty uncommon - it seems there are two branches - mine all seem to be from around Leigh and Ashton U Lyne area. I have come across the Darwen family during my studies, but they're not connected as far as I can tell to my tree. Are you a member of Genes Reunited? My full Cockshoot tree is on there and you would be most welcome to view it. Also Rootsweb has a very comprehensive Cockshoot/shutt/shute site set up by a lday called Jane Lachs, thousands of Cockshoots on t and am sure you would find your family there.
Hope this helps
Best wishes, Jacqui

Dear Jacqui,
I have been tracing my family tree on my Grandpa's side and his Mother was a Cockshoot. She was called Betsy and borin in 1888 in Darwen, Lancashire. His Grandfather, Emmanuel Cockshoot was born in 1866 and died in the early 1940's. He ended up living at my Grandpa's family home in Darwen fo the last few years of his life. I have details of the lineage back to 1801 in Darwen. Do you think there is a possible relation to the Cockshoot's in your family tree?
Kind regards,
Dominic Ceraldi

Hello,
I have the Cockshoot family line in Darwen back to c1801. The generation from 1825 - 1850 had twelve brothers and sisters in total, so there is a possibility of some family link there. Do you know if Briggs Cockshoot was any relation to Alan at all?
Regards,
Dominic

Thank you for contacting me. Did Alan Cockshoot by any chance move to the Morecambe area?
My Grandpa told me had a relative called Alan who moved there.

I'm William Cockshott, I live in Maryland in the US. I too am looking for Cockshott's that lived in the Yeadon, Guiseley, Esholt area as my grandfather was born in that area and immigrated to the US in 1912 when he was 2 yrs old, with his father Joseph Oliver Cockshott and his wife Eva (Lee). Olivers father I believe was John and his wife was Annie. Johns father I think was Thomas and his wife was Ann (Yeadon)i'm pretty much stuck at that point, but I'm visiting the area in July of this year 2008
