Hello Jane,
Though I can't help with your Surrey Cockshootes I note you collect them
anywhere. I have 3 generations out of Kildwick In Craven, Yorkshire. The
first I know of, is William who died 19 Oct 1620. He was married to Isabella
Bradleye. Their son was John, b 1592 and died 3 Jun 1641 at Silsden,
Kildwick in Craven, Yorkshire. His wife was Agnes. Their son William was b.
1623 at Kildwick in Craven, Yorkshire and died 2 Jan 1709/10 at Silsden. He
married Rebecca Marshall. I descend from their daughter Phebe born in 1679.
Just thought I'd let you know.
Best wishes,

Thank-you Peggy,
That's interesting, I have the NASH marriage in my database (IGI) but not
the marriage of her parents.
I've found Susannah and Joseph NASH in 1881 and 1891 .. she was born ca.
1839 Hackney.
Is it possible John and Sarah married before 1830 ? I have a nice group of 5
London COCKSHOTT children with parents John and Sarah starting 1822 ?
Cheers Jane

Peter
Are any of your COCKSHOOTS connected with the coachbuilders of that name
in Manchester?
All list members,
My Mother-in-Law's gtgt grandmother was Ellen COCKSHOOT, b. 27 March
1825 (Leigh), d. 27 Feb. 1882 (Leigh). She married Richard YATES (b. 30
April 1825, d. 11 March 1895, Leigh) on 7 Aug. 1847. They had 9
children, all known.
Ellen's father was John COCKSHOOT, b. 10 Jun. 1793 (Leigh), d. 9 Nov.
1863. Her mother was Alice JUBB, b. 20 March 1796, d. 24 Dec. 1876.
Ellen's grandfather (i.e. father of John) was a Thomas COCKSHEAD, b.
c1750, who married Martha (Unknown), b. 1759, d. 9 Nov. 1836. They had
the following children:
Ann COCKSHOOT, bap. 30 April 1776, St. Mary's R.C. Church, Highfield
Street, Liverpool
Thomas COCKSHOOT, bap. 14 Jan. 1787, St. Mary's R.C. Church, Highfield
Street, Liverpool
Martha COCKSHOOT, bap. 23 Jan. 1791, St. Joseph's R.C., Leigh
John COCKSHOOT, bap. 10 Jan. 1793, St. Joseph's R.C., Leigh
Daniel COCKSHEAD, bap. 7 March 1795, St. Joseph's R.C., Leigh
Maria COCKSHEAD, bap. 23 Jul. 1796, St. Joseph's R.C., Leigh
William COCKSHED, bap. 7 April 1798, St. Joseph's R.C., Leigh
Robert COCKSHUT, bap. May 1801, St. Joseph's R.C., Leigh
Maria Coxshoot, bap. 16 October, Astley Chapel, Astley
Daniel's parents are given as William and Martha, but this is thought to
be a mistake and that Thomas was indeed his father as the children all
have the same sponsors.
William is known to have moved to Boothstown later on in life.
WHERE WAS THIS FAMILY between the birth of Ann (1776) & Thomas (1787)?
There is an 11 year gap and no reference can be found to the family in
Liverpool between these dates. It is possible they were in the North of
Lancashire at this time but that is only speculation.
DOES ANYONE HAVE A CONNECTION WITH THESE COCKSHOOTs? If so I would like
to hear from you.

Glad you accomplished so much yesterday. I know the kids will
appreciate everything. Maybe they'll move upstairs!
Guess I'll do some inside cleaning and go to the ice cream social this
afternoon. Just returned from getting car washed. There wasn't much of
a wait today. Two weeks ago I would have been an hour! Then I acquired
TONS of bugs on the trip to Dallas.
Guess this time of year is bad for bugs as it was the trip to SA last
May on which I stopped at Crane to clean windshield on the way down.
I'll really be glad when you're home. It's been very lonely. Never
thought I'd say that! Haven't wanted to do much without you.
Take care.
Love,
Lonesome in TX
Hi,
I'm Denise and I'm looking for information about my gt. gt. grandfather John Cockshott, who was born 1819/20, in either Lancashire or Yorkshire!
I've found him on the 1851 census living in Settle, W.Yorks. age 31, with wife, Sarah age 32, and children: William T,age 5 and John age 5mths. My gt.grandfather James was born in Settle on 27.01.1858 - parents were John Cockshott and Sarah Cockshott (formerly Preston).
On the 1881 census my gt. gts, John and Sarah Cockshott are to be found at Rainsough, Prestwich, Lancashire. My gt. James is married to Ann and was living at Bowlee, Middleton in Oldham Lancashire. James died, age 27, on 22.06.1885 after producing 4 children ( I think that in 1881 the William F Cockshott living Broughton in Salford Lancs. should be James' elder brother William T Cockshott).
I'm now a bit stuck because I haven't yet found a record of the marriage of John Cockshott and Sarah Preston. According to both the 1851 and 1881 census Sarah was born in Colne, Lancashire. According to the 1881 census John was also born in Colne. However the 1851 census states that John Cockshott was born in Bolton. (This could be either the 'Yorkshire Bolton', or the Lancashire Bolton')!
Regards,
Denise Lawton.
Thanks Mel,
I'll send that on to the COCKSHOTT list
Cheers Jane
