Hi Jane,
You and other Cockshutt researchers may find this site of interest:
http://mail.city.brantford.on.ca/inventory.nsf
If you go to search... then put COCKSHUTT in the keyword search, you will get about 58 hits...everything from streets named for the COCKSHUTT family, to images of the family homes. I have not checked all yet, but thought I should let others know about the site.
To get everyone started, be sure to look at: (after you get the list....)
# 66 Mohawk
#172 Chatham
This site confirms how important the COCKSHUTT family became in Brantford.
Have fun ...!

that helped me sort out two William/Selina families that I'd mixed up :-)
I kept wondering why they had named two children Elizabeth and the first one
didn't die in infancy LOL

Evening :-)
how peculiar !
I was going to write and ask if anyone knew who the 2 were .. buried at Burnley
.. thought they might have been "mine" but not so.
Interesting though .. couldn't find them in my extracted list of COCKSHOTT etc.
in 1901 ..
but have them now under COCKSHEET !
Joshua and Margaret were some of the "better off" COCKSHOTTs. In 1881 he's a
cotton spinner employing 100 men.
I have been in contact with his great-grand-daughter.
Thank-you again,
Cheers Jane

Hi Jane and fellow researchers
If you go to microfiches # 6909781, marriages and #6909780, births and
christening of Kildwick in Craven, Yorks, Eng you will find that in
Apr 6, 1795 Edmund Cockshott married Ann Willkinson
Mary b 14 Jan. 1797
c 20 Feb 1797 Edmund Cockshott &
Ann Wilkinson
13 Nov. 1804, Edmund Cockshott & Anne Bottomley married
Anne b 29 Sep 1810
c 20 Oct 1811 Edmund Cockshott &
Anne Bottomley
John b 17 Apr 1805
c 19 May 1805 Edmund Cockshott &
Anne Bottomley
Ellen b 30 Nov 1806
c 6 Jan 1807 Edmund Cockshott &
Anne Bottomley
The next question is how accurate were these records copied ?
Their are about 7 children listed with parents
Of Edmund Cockshott & Ann or Anne ? Did they drop or add an "E" ? Also
their is listed children of Edward Cockshott & ann Wilkinson, but no
marriage of Edward. Was the hand writing bad and Edward should be
Edmund?

Just back from a trip to West Yorkshire and whilst idling away a few
moments in Bradford Central Library saw the following in Marriage Bonds
and Allegations:-
WHEAT Thomas 23 Redford, Notts. COCKSHUTT Anne 23 Cawthorn
13 Jun 1727 Cawthorn P.C.
EMBLEY Thomas 25 Linton. COCKSHOTT Esther 22 Addingham
10 Oct 1789 Addingham P.C.
Bradford Library now has the GRO Index micro fiche for the years 1837-
1900 and it was a new experience for me to be able to use them.

I haven't looked at the Kildwick PRs for that period yet ..
I'm not sure whether there were 2 Edmund/Ann families or just one and the first
Thomas died.
I've been meaning to ask .. when did you family change their name ?
I found this family in the 1900 USA census:

Thank-you Mike .. this is good .. I know now which Lawrence he is :-)
I have a note on his father (his mother was Ann ANDERSON):
Private Briggs COCKSHOTT
Born at Blackburn, Lancashire: trade-weaver. Attested at Heston Norris on 13
August 1810 aged 14 years. Served in No 7 Company at Waterloo. Wounded in
action at Waterloo. Discharged on 21 June 1816.
Lawrence joined the forces too .. I have him in 1881 and 1891 as a "Naval pensioner, Royal Marine"
Cheers
