Thank-you Robin :-)
I had a look for Salterforth in my COCKSHOTT database .. there was only 1
record ..
John Smith Laborer of Barnoldswick and Anne COCKSHUTT of Salterforth
married 1718/19.
So there were at least 2 COCKSHUTT there at one time :-)
Cheers Jane

Hello Jane
There is just one mention in the Salterforth Friends weekly meeting register
This states that John COCKSHAT was buried at Psalterforth (sic) ... but does
not say when.
To clarify .. Lawrence KING son of John KING writes the register from 1725
.. and on the first page states that 'there had been an account of Friends
that was buried at Psalterforth before ye year1716 which was lost by an
accident so that no more but their names could be remembered afterwards'
He then lists the names ...first was 'Robert Robinson, Thomas Higson, John
Cockshat,.....'
I have looked through the other entries and can find no more .. neither for
BMD events nor as marriage witnesses ....
From those marriage witnesses it seems that the group of friends lost many
over the years .. whether they went to other meetings or just left ....
I have a copy of the Settle monthly meeting register and will be starting on
that soon ... so will keep looking and let you know of any sightings...
Frustrating isn't it....
Sorry to raise your hopes .. hope youhave success elsewhere..
Robin

Notes
Microfilm of original records in possession of the Public Record Office,
London, England.
These records are known as the "Unburnt documents". They represent about 8
percent of the original file. These are files that were submitted to the
Ministry of Pensions. They were undamaged during World War II when the main
file was 70 per cent destroyed in the Blitz.
Contains service files of soldiers who were discharged from the British Army
from 1914 to 1920. The files are organized alphabetically by surname and
given name. Some soldiers may have enlisted as early as the 1890s. Includes
unit name and number, birthplace, age at time of enlistment and name and
address of next of kin. May also include names of parents, spouses and
children. May also note occupation prior to military service and assignments
in the Army. Includes date of discharge and reason for discharge. Death
certificates of some pensioners are included up to as late as the 1950s.
Public Record Office No.: WO 361
Thank-you :-)
I'll forward these to "my" surname lists.
