Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

F. Y. I. As seen on the List Owner's list.
While we've all been caught up in the changes of the past week, has
anyone noticed that the Social Security Administration is increasing its
prices for copies as of July 1? You might want to post this Eleventh
Hour message to your lists for anyone who is sitting on any requests.
Prices for copies of SS applications will increase from $7 to $27. The
exact fee structure can be found at:
http://www.ssa.gov/foia/foia_guide.htm#_Toc517745431
Hopefully, the LDS will pick these up in the near future & subsidize the
project much like they did with the Ellis Island site.
FYI :-)
Be careful you don't miss someone out on the Ellis Island site .. the ages
are not always right.
I was scrolling down a list of John CARRs .. looking for a child.
On the index I found this one:
118. John Carr 1920 8 YEARS OLD
But when I clicked on it for further information I saw that the "8" for the
age was in fact the first digit of the birth date !

Carr, John, British, English
Date of arrival Nov 1920
Age on arrival 8-6-81

If I had been looking for a 39 year old I would have missed 'im :-)

ANCESTRY.COM AND ROOTSWEB.COM LAUNCH NEW MESSAGE BOARDS
===================================================================
Largest Collection of Free Community Content Organized by Surname,
Locality, and Topic Areas
San Francisco, CA?MyFamily.com, Inc., the leading online destination
for connecting families and generations on the Web, today announced
the launch of new family history message boards on both the
Ancestry.com and RootsWeb.com Internet sites. Assembling the largest
collection of genealogy and family history messages on the Internet,
the new offering will allow users to freely access over 18 million
messages, tips, and postings from individuals engaged in family
history research.
"Internet message boards have become one of the best resources for
the millions of people around the world who are searching to find out
more about their family's past," said Andre Brummer. "What was once a
very solitary pursuit has been transformed into a monumental
collaborative effort as people with common ancestors are now able to
share and exchange information. Our new message boards will enable
the genealogy community to more easily post queries, communicate
insights, and swap leads with other researchers with the click of a
computer mouse."
Accessible from either the Ancestry.com or RootsWeb.com sites, the
new boards are greatly improved to provide greater functionality, a
clean and simple user interface, faster search results ranked by
relevancy and the ability to handle surges in traffic load without
interruption. Family history researchers will also have the ability
to add attachments such as scanned photos, documents, or GEDCOM
genealogical files.
The new message boards further the company's goal of building the
largest and most active online community for family history research.
The company's network of sites, which includes Ancestry.com,
RootsWeb.com, and MyFamily.com, offer both free and premium paid
services to users. Ancestry.com is the third largest paid
subscription site on the Internet with over 375,000 paid
subscriptions to its service. Additionally the company sends free
genealogy e-mail newsletters to more than 2 million subscribers.
Message boards can be searched at:
http://boards.ancestry.com
=====================================================================
Please feel free to circulate this newsletter to other genealogy
enthusiasts. We hope that you will also credit the "Daily News"
(http://www.ancestry.com/dailynews/) as the source.
Thanks John .. no I hadn't noticed it at that site but your email reminded
me of something .. last year in Sheffield I photo copied an article about a
Cockshutt farm near Beauchief .. problem is : can't find it !!??

Hi
On the OS Old Maps site (6" to 1 mile maps, mid-19thC) have you seen
Cockshut's Farm just to the north-east of Norton Woodseats and to
the south-east of Norton Lees ?
As it is the bit of Sheffield which was Derbyshire up to the late 19thC
it comes under the Derbyshire part of the menu of

Thanks Mel,
I had him , his parents and 6 siblings .. but not one named Sarah ! She
could fit in a big gap between 1785 and 1781 !?
His mother was Grace LISTER ..
I also have a Lister COCKSHOTT who married an Ann LISTER :-)

I had a wander around Silsden churchyard. I know you have numerous MI's
there, here is one of them [selected because pre-GRO index etc.]:
"In memory of John Lister COCKSHOTT the son of Henry and Grace COCKSHOTT of
Cringles who died October 23rd 1829 aged 34 years
No verse of praise write on my tomb
Since there's a judgement yet to come
Leave all to God who justly knows
And more than we deserve bestows
Also of Sarah COCKSHOTT daughter of Henry and Grace COCKSHOTT and sister to
the above John Lister who died May 28th 1858 in the 70th year of her age"
