Subject: Re: Bolton-by-Bowland Church Registers
Hi Jane'
I'll do you a swap! Have you got one of my Cockshotts:
Margaret Cockshott, born 1819 in Heckmondwike, Yorkshire.
Here are the ones from Bolton-by-Bowland:
John, the son of Thomas Cockshot, was Bap: April ye 23d
1721.
James, ye son of Thomas Cochshet, was bap: February 23d
1723.
Christopher ye Son of Thomas Cockshet, was Baptized April
24th 1726.
William, ye Son of Thomas Cochshutt of Bay-gate Baptiz'd May
5th 1728.
Benjamin ye Son of Thomas Cockshott of Baygate , Baptiz'd
May ye 23d 1731.
Stephen Parsons, Weaver, & Ellen Cockshott, wid., both of
this par., mar.
after Banns, 13 Feb., 1800, by John Foster, Curate of
Bracewell -
(witnesses) John Howson, Charles Harrison.
Isabel, the Daughter of James Cockshut, Baptiz'd July the
15th 1753.
James Cockshut and Mary Walm, both of this parish, maried by
License,
October the 4th 1752.
Matthew, ye Son of Thomas Cochshutt of Baygate, Buried
November 11th 1731.
Thomas, the Son of Nickals Cochshot, Baptiz'd May the 20th
1758.
The spellings are exactly as they appear in the
transcriptions, hope they
are of some use to you. Having looked a a fair number of
local documents
whilst looking for my family I have noticed that Cockshott
is a pretty
common name in the Ribble Valley/ Pendle Forest/ Gisburn
Forest areas.
Judith,
Clitheroe, Lancashire.
Evening Sue,
do you have a birth date/place for Elizabeth COCKSHOTT ?
TIA

I have found a COCKSHOTT in my DIXON family and wonders if anyone shares her, if you excuse the expression.
She is MARGARET COCKSHOTT, who was born in 1819 in Heckmondwike, Yorkshire. She came to Clitheroe, Lancashire, working as a milliner and married Jahn Dixon of Low Moor, Clitheroe in approximately 1841. Between them ( John had been married before) they had 15 children.
Please get in touch if you have any information.

Hello Lancs searchers,
Living in Germany makes research very slow. So will give
this a try.
Here are my main research interests.
NAMES PLACES
SUDDERS Lancs, England, USA, Worldwide
SEED Lancashire
MARTIN Lancs, Ireland
I'm looking for any SUDDERS anywhere. There are so few that
I'm greatful for
any.
My SUDDERS originally come from ACCRINGTON Lancs, those that
are left of our
family are still there. Some I can not trace.
Most of the family of Joseph SUDDERS my g. grandfather I
have on record. But his
brother Johns family are giving me some bother.
Joseph and John were born in New Jersey USA. in the 1850's.
Their parents John
and Alice(nee SEED) emigrated to the US in 1845 aboard the
SUSQUEHANNA docking
at Philadelphia.
Later the family moved from New Jersey to Philadelphia where
Alice had a
confectioners shop. Her husband John I have no trace of
after he takes out US
citizenship in 1858. Did he leave her or die?
Alice returns to Accrington about 1869/70 with her two sons.
On the 1871 census
she is living in Stanley St.recorded as a widow with Joseph,
John and her neice
Jane Hannah Seed aged 6.
John married a GRACE COCKSHUTT om 1875 but I can'find him on
the 1881 Census can
anyone help??. I'v no idea where he disappears to and
finding his side of my
family would answer many questions (well I hope so)
Joseph married Mary DEAN and they had 5 children.
CHARLES (my grandfather) worked at Broad Oak also
went to work in Brazil
in the 1940's
ARTHUR killed in WW1
JAMES had a butchers shop in Accrington
BESSIE
ANNIE died in 1996 aged 103
Joseph died in 1896 at the age of 42. Mary his wife
remarried some years later
to a ? RABY.
Charles married Rose MARTIN (my grandparents) her parents
died when she was only
2 so I have very little info. Her parents were ROBERT and
ISABEL(?) he may have
come from Ireland. Her siblings were:
BERTH MARTIN married ? Riley
they kept the Lamb
Inn on the
Whalley Rd. between Acc.
and
Clayton-le-Moores
HARRY MARTIN
JACK MARTIN
SALLY MARTIN
The children were all split up after their parents died so
this is the reason of
not having much to go on.
If anyone has any info regarding any of the above I'd be
over the moon.
Just to hear that someone has heard of the name SUDDERS
would be great there are
so few around.
Think this is enough for the first mail don't want to put
people off!!
If I can assist anyone from this side please let me know.
Happy searching
Marie Cartwright.
PS CARTWRIGHTS come from Shropshire but thats another story!

Hello,
As suggested in the introductory letter sent to new subscribers, I'm sending
an e-mail describing my interest in this list.
But first, I would like do express my deep concern for the way in which my
address has been added to the rootsweb spam list without my knowledge or
consent. I feel this treatment is abusive and unethical. Instead, perhaps
the list owner should warn potential subscribers that their e-mail address
is going to be used in this way, and that this is a condition of signing up.
If I had known, I would have used a yahoo or hotmail account to subscribe.
I'm not sure about the anti-spam rules in Canada or Germany, but in the US
and Norway, such behavior is apparently unlawful.
Please ensure that rootsweb does not sell my address to advertisers,
business partners, or any company that may acquire them. Future problem
with this site will result in action from spamcop.net and MAPS RBL
(http://mail-abuse.org/rbl/rationale.html).
My interest in the list stems from my own name, Cookshaw, and the relation
that Jane suspects between Cockshott and Cookshaw. When I have more time, I
would like to pursue this topic, if it is relevant to the list.
Thanks for your eyes and time,
Kelvin Cookshaw
FYI :-)
