purchased a book entitled:
'CHRISTIAN MISCELLANY AND FAMILY VISITOR FOR THE YEAR 1851'
(Wesleyan-Methodist Society) for a few pence in a junk shop. It contains
lots of genealogical information which I have extracted and indexed as
below. As some of the persons noted relate to your County, I thought I would
give you the chance to put it on your mailing list. The numbers at the end
of each entry denote the page in the book.

Subject: [BRANT] Cockshutt
I certainly don't remember any company apart from
Cockshutt Plow, with the family name tho' I expect
they folded/closed/sold way before our time Marilyn.
There was a company formed early in the war called Cockshutt
Moulded Aircraft but I would imagine it was just a wartime
effort and was a spinoff from the plow company.
The big house on Dufferin Ave that is, or at least was, the original
R.C. high school, was a Cockshutt house. Haven't been around there
for many moons so probably torn down years ago. Bill B could
tell us. Was on the corner of Dufferin and Hawarden.

Jane, enjoyed looking through the references to Cockshott youve provided.
I'm
trying to trace my garandmother's family Alice Ann Cockshoot/Cockshott, b
1883 in Haslingdon, Lancs. Her father James, born 1869 in Turton (nr Bolton)
Lancs to John Cockshott of Egerton (nr Bolton) Lancs. I understand there are
links between the Cockshott's and Nutter's, of Pendle witches, though this
has yet to be established in fact.
Happy hunting,
Andrew Lord
