I have been researching my Cock/s line too. Though haven't had a breakthrough for a while now.
My Great Grandfather Henry Cock was born at North Wootton in Somerset on the family farm. He has three older brothers and a sister. John, William and Charles. I believe Charles died in infancy, but John and William supposedly went to either or both USA and Australia in the last 1880's. Henry was born 1855 and was orphaned by the time he was 6. He was then [according to family story] to an orphanage in Slough, Berkshire under the guardianship of an Uncle. He did have an Uncle Cornelius Cock who lived in Middlesex, but why he was placed in the orphanage we don't know. He re-emerged as Henry Cox marrying Elizabeth Hayman in Wincanton, Somerset and later changed the family name back to Cock but had added the S to make it Cocks.
My father and I have got back to 1690 ish, but haven't managed to find where Philip Cock of Pilton came from.
We haven't found a trace of John and William, but they don't seem to be around anywhere in England in the 1901 Census.
That's my story so far UNLESS YOU KNOW DIFFERENT!
I am open to offers!!

Dear Beryl,
Yes, there are some Cocks out here. I'll start with my grandmother Luella
May Cocks born July 11, 1887 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and died April 27,
1978 in Cleveland Oklahoma, U.S.A. Her parents were Harry James Fredrick
Cocks and Elizabeth Mary Green. They had 13 children. My grandmother was
the eldest.
Harry James Cocks was born November 1, 1864 in Devonshire, London, England,
U.K. and died July 23, 1923 in Sioux City, Iowa (buried in Colorado Springs,
Colorado) U.S.A. He was a typesetter and worked for Gazette Printing in
Colorado Springs for several years. His parents were George Josiah and Sarah
Ann (May) Cocks.
George Josiah Cocks was born December 6, 1838 in London, England (We don't
know exactly where in London.) He was married in St. Savior's Church, Parish
of Upper Chelsea, Middlesex, England. He died May 11, 1897 in Denver,
Colorado U.S.A. He is buried in Fairmount Cemetery in Denver. We know he
was a carpenter and cabinet maker. I found him listed on the 1871 census in
Ontario Canada. They came to the Denver area in Colorado U.S.A. around
1884-1885.
We think George Josiah Cocks' father was a T.S.Cocks. Now we are stuck.
The story is that George Josiah Cocks, his wife Sarah Ann and their four
sons; Thomas, Harry, William and Edwin, left for Canada in June of 1870. I
have a copy of the picture of the family taken in London before they left.
There were four more children born in Canada then they all migrated to
Colorado, U.S.A.
A few years back my husband and I were in London. I had old street
addresses of some of the Cocks. We were able to locate the area of the
addresses but, of course, many changes have occured since the 1870's.
I hope we can work together and make some connections.
Sincerely,
Arlene Raudenbush
