Hi
Thanks a lot .. It is it so scary anymore to open an e-mail when you are
not familiar with the person ... Very little traffic on the COCKS site and I
think there should be more ... So that is why I am sending to the List ...
You can contact Kathy; as she was just here when these messages came through
.. she lives in the Valley area near Corpus Christi, Texas . I am just north
of Houston ... There are two book and she says the lady that worte them died
... so unavailable right now. Katy is going to sign up for the list ... So
let us talk abit ... Our line is through Richard COCKS and his son WILLIAM
and his father Richard and so on .. Somewhere the name was changed from
COCKE to COCKS in our line .. William Cocks died early 1900's and papers
are either in COCKS or COCKE and the same person .. One of his sons went by
the Cocke name and that family still retains that spelling .. Yet they are
close cousins!
Take care and can you tell us what your name is? You never said .. Mine is
Derre and pronounced Dairy .. (Dairy Queen) it is the Female spelling of
Derry, it is from Ireland and means "Red headed Temper"

Hi,
It is called Cocke's and cousins ... Kathy Cocks has the book and she
ordered from the woman who wrote it .. not sure if still available .. I will
include Kathy in this e-mail, ; as she is here with me now .. and very
interested in the list! I think most libraries have this book ... Perhaps
you can look in your library and copy some pages from it? Not sure where you
live?
May I address another issue? Please always put COCKS in the heading .. I
almost did not OPEN your e-mail of CLAIMS. With the Viruses circulating?
Please always put COCKS in the subject so we know what it pertains to.
Thanks!
Regards,
Derre

Sorry, I would love to claim any or all. My Cocks first appeared in South
Carolina in the 1780's and had land in Greenville County, SC. The records in
Greenville show him receiving 100 acres of land from Robert Cox. I have not
been able to trace any further. It is my belief that Robert Cox was probably
Cocks. I know that Archibald changed his name to Cox in the 1800s.
Appreciate anything! M.A.Cox

Hi There
Hope someone is around? Going through files at Hull University I chanced
upon these mentions of COCKS.
1773 papers of Sir Charles COCKS of The Manor Reigate Surrey
14th.Feb.1778 a grant of 15 shillings by Hon.Daines BARRINGTON and Richard
COCKS of the Inner Temple London and Sir Charles COCKS of Dumbleton Glos. to
Sir Henry ETHERINGTON of Hull Yorkshire.
5th.April 1634 notes relating to a James BOWDEN of Westbourne parish
Tiddeswell Derbyshire,a yeoman farmer, and Henry COCKS of Tiddeswell further
to the marriage of James BOWDEN and Mary COCKS daughter of Henry COCKS.
Might I suggest that anyone who is lurking around this list post their
interests? My own interest is in a Bessie Gertrude COCKS born after 1881 in
either Kent or South London. She married William Henry STOCKBRIDGE in Kent
and in 1913 they were living at White Horse Hill Chislehurst U.D. Kent.
Hope to see some activity.
