Was Thomas Cockerill's wife Elizabeth Remy? His son Jeremiah was in my line
of Cockerills
What I still would like to know who John Cockerill's wife was? Was she
Lucretia Neale or was she Elizabeth Presley or were both of these women his
wives?
Thanks
Joyce

Hello,
I believe that Thomas Cockerill's father was John Cockrell of Westmoreland County. I'm not sure how this John is related to the ones in Northumberland County but I'm certain they are related in some way. My sources are Charles Blair Tavenner's work on Loudoun County genealogy and Westmoreland County records which refer to a John Cockerill there. Add to this data that Ann Remy, his wife, was also from a Westmoreland County family, and then it makes it easy to conclude that this is the case.

My distant relative, Sarah Jane Groves, was married to David Davis Cockrell. I believe David D. was a brother of your great-grandfather, William P. Cockrell. I was wondering if you know anything about the Groves/Cockrell line. Sarah's brother, John H. Groves, had a close relationship with the Cockrells. (John was married to my great-great grandmother. Their son David E. Groves was my great-grandmother's half-brother.) John was living in the Sailors/Soldiers Home in IL when he died. I think he left everything to the Cockrells. I was hoping someone in the family might have a photograph of some of the Groves. We lost touch with that branch of the family.

Saluda County is located where? Can you possible give more details?
Lane, I haven't seen your name on line for several years, although I am still
connected to the Cockrel rootsweb. My late husband was Charles, and I know
he corresponded with you to learn more of his family. You may or may not know
he passed away in 2000 while we lived in Chattanooga. I still miss him. Just
thought you'd like to know.
