I have a picture of this William Edward Cockrell. he was born,
6 Jun 1846 in Northumberland Virginia, Died 28 Jan 1902 in Princeton, Missouri.
I am a decendent from his older brother, James Cockrell.
I would like to know who was the John Cottrell that married to Eliza Coles
on March 12, 1812 in Northumberland. This man was mention in the will of
Edward Coles(Justice of Peace). His daughter name was Rhoda Ann Cottrell (married
Benedict G. Burgess).

I too descend from Jeremiah Cockrell and Martha Linton. I don't know who Martha's parents are. I know that Jeremiah's parents were Thomas Cockrell and Ann Remy. There are three theories on who were Thomas' parents:
1. John Cockrell and Elizabeth Presley:
Although they did have a son named Thomas b. 1699 according to parish records, he is not mentioned in his mother's will which leads me to suspect that he died young thus ruling John Cockrell and Elizabeth Presley as his parents.
2. John Cockrell and Lucretia Neale
At first glance, it makes sense that they could have been his parents because of the constant association of Jeremiah Cockrell and Thomas Cockrell with members of the Neale family but I'm not completely sure. Also they or their son John had a son named Thomas.
3. John Cockrell of Westmoreland County
Some have believed that John Cockrell of Westmoreland County is the same person as John Cockrell married to Lucretia Neale since John Cockrell of Westmoreland County also associated with the Neale family. I thought that could be the case also. John of Westmoreland County did have a son named Thomas.
Does anybody have a clear answer to this question?
Thanks,
Chuck

Hello,
I'm trying to find out information on Martha Linton who according to
secondary sources was married to Jeremiah Cockrell of Fairfax County around
1755 or so. Does anybody know of a primary source supporting that she was
indeed the wife of Jeremiah Cockrell? And secondly does anybody know who her
parents were and whether she may have been related to Moses Linton of Prince
William Co., Virginia?
Thank you,
