I went on line to Jim Burgess site and looked at the information on Thomas
Cockerill. If I am correct he seems to think that Thomas's parents were not
John and Lucretia Neale Cockerill.
However, I believe that these were his parents because my children's
Cockerill line that I have some information on was Jeremiah. There was also
one who had a Sanford name.
This is the son of Jeremiah Cockrell or Cockerill
THOMAS COCKERILL (1760-
Thomas COCKERILL was born about 1760 in Loudoun Co.,VA to Jeremiah
COCKERILLE (1733) and Martha LINTON (1720-1743) and died July 9,1842 in
Fayette Co.,OH..
Amelia Million LUCAS was born 1768 in Loudoun Co ,VA. She died June 4,
1841 in Fayette County,OH.
An old Bible in the possession of Nellie Cockerill Madden gives his marriage
to Milion Lucas in 1786,but Amelia is the name given on her tombstone. They
are supposed to have been married in Loudoun Co, VA .He served a short time
in the Revolutionary War, enlisting in VA.
Thomas and his wife came from Virginia to Ohio about 1840. Thomas went to
the home of his son, William S and died there. Amelia, his wife ,lived with
her daughter ,Elizabeth Eyre, until her death. They were buried in Walnut
Creek Cemetery.
Children of Thomas COCKERILL and Amelia LUCAS:
1. Newton B Cockerille b Oct. 29,1786 was drowned when young
**2. William Sanford 1842) b 19 Nov 1789 in Loudoun CO.,VA. ;died
1879,married Anna Ledman 1809,married Phoebe Mooney,1823, married Eliza
Mooney, married Sidney Daster
3. Thomas L Cockerille b. Sept 19,1791 in Loudoun Co.,VA went to KY
4. Jane Francis Cockerille b July 19,1793 married Otho Dowden
5. Elizabeth Cockerill b Oct.4, 1796 in Loudoun Co.,VA died June 16,1865
,married Robert Eyre
Anyone else of this Cockerill line that has any information about the
parents of Thomas Cockerill and of his parents -John and Lucretia Neale
Cockerill? Who was John's parents?
Thanks
Joyce

Dear Friends and Family,
I am very proud to annouce that my family history has been posted on the
internet at www.surnames.com
Click on Published Gedcoms! You will see a picture of Jim and Sandi Burgess
and our family history next to my good friend Gary Foster.
I have also submitted this information to The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter
Day Saints to the Pedigree Resource File. I have spent the last three years
cleaning this information and making corrections. I know that most of this
information is very good. There will always be mistakes - for those
mistakes
that have survived I sincerely apologize. Please send corrections. Not
sure
that I will be able to make corrections, but will try if possible.
If you copy this information I ask that you atleast give the people who did
the
research credit. Please do not take credit for the work that I have spent a
life
time organizing. I have tried my best to give credit to those from whom I
received
information. In my youth I did not understand the importance of this. I
apologize
for my youthful misunderstandings in that I may have not given everyone
credit.
Click on Published Gedcoms You will see a picture of Jim and Sandi Burgess
and our family history.
I started family history in 1969, so I have been working on this for almost
thirty six years.
The books that I have written are on this web site in one form or another.
Burgess, Mullins, Browning, Brown and Allied Families
Cockrill Families of Northern Virginia
Blackwell Families of Northern Virginia
All of the notes that I have been typing every day for all these years can
be
found on this web site.
For Cockrill families please look under the end of the line ancestor. The
Chapters
in my book are posted under their names. You may have some challenges as
you toggle
around. Just be assured that most everything is there.
Look for the little notes symbol. There are a lot of them. As indicated
they may be
a lot more information that you have paper so be careful.
My Buckner family will be difficult to locate. You will have to click on
the surname
that you are researching.
All of the Johnson family data is on the site.
All of my information on my Smith ancestors can be found.
The Smith Chapters from the Northern Neck families are NOT there as that
information
is a mess.
If someone will print out all the notes I believe there will be about 14,000
pages of
documentation not including all the pedigree charts and family groupd
sheets. (not including the Smith families of Northern Virgina)
I will be posting the descendants of William Burgess and Susanna of Bedford
County, Virginia
soon. We now have 6,000 descendants and spouses. Would love assistance in
finding documentation on these families.
Please understand that I cannot answer a million emails.
It looks like I will be going in for a third major surgery. So I am happy
this information
is presented in what I believe is a wonderful format.
May I express my love to each of you and wish you the best in your family
history.

Hi Joyce,
I have serious doubts that Thomas of Loudoun, VA was the son of John, Jr. and Elizabeth (Presley) Cockrell for two reasons:
1. In the transcripts that I have seen of Elizabeth (Presley) Cockrell's will from 1719, she mentions all of her known children except Thomas which in my experience means that more than likely, her son Thomas died in childhood. She even makes a passing reference to a son who was probably deceased, Peter.
2. A John Cockrell deeded 50 acres of land to a Thomas Cockrell in Westmoreland County, VA around 1735 and there are obvious links between them and the Neale family. Indeed even Thomas Cockrell's son Jeremiah and Thomas' grandson-in-law continued to interact with members of the Neale family.
As additional support that this Thomas from Westmoreland was the correct one, Thomas' wife's family, the Remy family was from Westmoreland County as well and members of that family left wills in that county.
If anybody has found any documentation that conclusively shows that Thomas Cockrell did survive childhood, ie. if one of his brothers mentioned him a deed or will after 1719, I would be interested in seeing it.
Sincerely,
Chuck Owens

Hi List,
I'm trying to determine whether Thomas Cockrell who died in Loudoun County, VA about 1777 was the son of John Jr. and Elizabeth Presley, or the son of John and Lucretia Neale.
I know from Beverley Fleet's transcriptions of the Northumberland records that John Jr. and Elizabeth had a son named Thomas born in 1699. Is there any other evidence which identifies Thomas who died in Loudoun County, VA as their son apart from the birth record?
A case could also be made that he was the son of John and Lucretia Neale since there supposedly exists a document in the Westmoreland records that a John Cockrell deeded to his son Thomas 50 acres in Cople parish in 1734. I haven't been able to confirm whether this document exists or not.
Thomas of Loudoun, VA's son Jeremiah had a relationship of some sort with members of the Neale family as well as his son-in-law Charles Turley of Fairfax County but maybe the link to the Neale family comes by way of the Presley family or some other family.
Anybody care to add to this or comment on it? Thomas Cockrell of Loudoun, VA was my ancestor so I would like to sort the pros and cons regarding who were his parents.
Thanks for your help,
Chuck Owens

Hello!
I am looking for additional information regarding the family/descendants of Mack & Elizabeth Evans Cockrell that show up on the 1860 Smith Co, MS census records. Mack was 36, Elizabeth was 27 and they had 6 children. This specific census record also shows an "Elizabeth Evans, age 69, born in SC". I am especially interested in any additional information I may find on her.
I am researching my Evans line and am looking for the parents of Joseph William Evans (b. 1821). The 1880 Lawrence Co, MS census shows that Joseph was born in MS, his father in GA and his mother in SC. Joseph and his wife named their first child Elizabeth F (possibly Frances) and our theory is that she was named for each of her grandmother's...which would mean that Joseph's mother's name would have been "Elizabeth". The Elizabeth shown on the 1860 Smith Co census in the Cockrell household would be the appropriate age to be Joseph's mother & the younger Elizabeth would be the appropriate age to be his sister.
I also noticed that Mack & Elizabeth Cockrell named 3 or 4 of their children the same names that Joseph and his wife used for thier children.
Any help solving this mystery would be greatly appreciated!!
God bless,
Hope Evans

I was wondering if you have any additional information regarding Joseph & Rebecca Evans? Do you know if any of their descendants moved to Mississippi?
Thanks for your help.
