Dear Cockrill Cousins,
DNA matching has worked in my Burgess Family. My Father's Burgess family in
Bedford County, Virginia is a 99.9 per cent match with my Mothers family in
Richmond County, Virginia. Simply amazing. My mother and father were
definitely
cousins. We are really excited to say the least.
Let's make more happen in our Cockrill DNA project.
Our Cockrill DNA project is moving along. We have two submissions so far.
I will let everyone know when we receive reports with the above submissions.
We have a great start.
Also we have been contacted by the Cottrell DNA project that may tie in to
Andrew Cottrell (Cockrill)of Northumberland County, Virginia.
To learn more about DNA and our Cockrill DNA project please visit:
http://www.familytreedna.com/
You can go directly to our Cockrill DNA project at this address:

cttype=S
The Cottrell family has 19 members sign up.
http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_det.asp?group=Coterel&projecttype=S
Two descendants of William Cockrill of King George County, Virginia
are considering signing up for my family.
I am writing to encourage families from every Cockrill line to join us.
The results should be amazing.
I would especially like to have someone from the William Cockrill and
Frances Jones
family. I believe that the chances are very good that we will have a match.
New the help of all cousins in this line! Who will take charge and get your
tests
sent in?
I believe that Tom Cockerel has signed up. Along with one other family
member.
Again be sure that you select a Cockrill male descendant whose family has
been traced
back to a Cockrill ancestor.
If you know some one who qualifies talk with them and encourage them to join
our project.
Please! Please! pass the Cockrill DNA word!
Cockrill Families of Northern Virginia may be reprinted. I have a contract
to have
it reprinted. Trying to decide we have an interest in purchasing books
before signing.
Would like atleast 50 commitments. I have about 5 commitments to purchase a
book!
If you have simple corrections to make in the book please let me know.
Send page
ID Number
Name
Correction
Will make only the simple corrections in the reprint.

Looking for information on the children of Sydenham Paris Cockrill after 1890. Sydenham Paris Cockrill was born abt 1816 in Allen Co, KY, son of Johnson J. Cockrill and Obedience Cusenberry Cockrill. He married first Mary Ann Elizabeth Wickware and second Annia Monks. S. P. Cockrill and Mary Wickware moved to Copiah County MS about 1840 and then to Jefferson Parish, LA before 1850. In 1860, 1870 and 1880 they are in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana. Though the spelling of names in the various census records vary I believe their children from the first marriage were Mary E. Cockrill b. 1840, Samuel R. Cockrill b. 1843, [Elizabeth?]Obedience Cockrell b. 1846, (the first three were born in Copiah County, MS), Budd Cockrill b.1849 died before 1860, Sydenham P. Cockrill b. 1853, and T. J. Cockrill b.1856. William Beatty Cockrill was born in 1866 to Sydenham and second wife Annia. All of the latter 4 children were born in New Orleans. Mary E. Cockrill married J. M.!
Todd and died after 1878. Elizabeth Obedience Cockrell married Thomas Uzzell Laster, Jr. and died before 1878. S. P. Cockrell died in 1881 in New Orleans. In 1890 the N. O. directory shows Willam B. living with Annia on Magazine Street in New Orleans and Sidney P. is a nurse at Truro Infirmary residing on Camp Street near the others. Can anyone advise as to the whereabouts or issue of Samuel R., S. P. Jr., T. J. or William Beatty after 1890? Jean Laster
