I am posting this again as I would like to have this confusion of the Cockerills of VA cleared up for me. In researching on the net as well as reading the copy of Cockerill Reunion by Mary Almeda Cockerill of 1637-1922 and some information obtained in her book by Frances Marion Cockerill, I am confused about Andreww and two John's . Some of the information contradicts one another which I expect to find. I just wanted to have the correct information.
I have the Cockerills traced up to Luther Cockerill ,son of Jacob STITES Cockerill and Roberta LIMES.
Here is the info I would appreciate if someone would give me the correct information.

The American Compedium through out states that Andrew is the head of this line. This was started by researhers of Francis Marion Cockrell and have not may be in doubt. NOTES:
The earliest ancestor known is Andrew Cockerell born in England, who came to America sometime in the early fall 1656.(Records of Northumberland County, VA)
There is a record in St. Stephens Parish, Northumberland County, VA. of the marriage of Andrew Cockerell to Angel Corbell (who married, 2) a Mr. Lamprey. We know of two sons Andrew and John. After Andrew died, and the boys were young, Angel preferred to change the name from Cockerell to Cottrell. She raised her sons using that name.
Andrew Cockrell bought land near John in 1656. He married Angel Corbell and died in 1674, leaving his widow and two sons, Andrew and John.
John and his brother Andrew found that their life in the colonies was not unlike their life in England. The Church of England was early established in Virginia, and Puritan congregations were outlawed there in 1643. The Book of Common Prayer had to be read. Such Puritanism as there was in Virginia, came from the absence of Anglican discipline and authority, rather than from an aggressive Puritan doctrine and a cohesive Puritan community. And as time flowed on, and great fortunes were built up from tobacco, the Puritan tinge faded from Virginia.
Virginia was the most English of the English colonies and more rural than most parts of England. Local government was set up on the English model. Anglican parishes were run by wardens and vestry, with care for the poor and for good morals as one of their duties. Counties had justices appointed by the royal governor. Until 1700, there was no settlement with more than a few score persons. Even Jamestown was almost deserted when the assembly was not in session. It was so easy to import articles of necessity and luxury from England in exchange for tobacco that local trades did not prosper. The Virginians were intensely loyal to their mother country and proud of being Englishmen. It was during this type of life that John Cockrell became a tobacco planter, who was in those days, were called an "oronooko." John Cockrell lived the life of a Virginia tobacco planter until his death in 1704. He and Hannah were the parents of the following children: John: born 22 November 1669, marrie!
d Mrs. Elizabeth Presly Saunders, widow of Ebenezer Saunders. He was the father of the following children: Willoughby, baptized 1700; Presly, baptized 10 December 1704; Hannah, baptized 10 December 1704; Peter, baptized 13 March 1700 and John, baptized 10 December 1704. Eliza was born 21 November 1671. Edward was born 29 December 1674 and died before July 1749. Hannah was born 20 February 1680. Richard was born 3 December 1683 and married Hannah Betts and died in 1762. He was the father of the following: Hannah, married a Morrison; Sarah, married a Fosset and John. * This was from a website.

I would appreciate if someone would clear up the information for me as to who John Cockrell's parents were. Were there two John's? Some say John who married Lucretia Neale was the son of Andrew. Which information is correct?
