Dear Cockrill Cousins,
Two pieces of information:
1.
Family Tree DNA has the kits for the William Cockril of King George County,
Virginia and the William Cockrill family of Allen County, Kentucky. If
these DNA reports match the others we are
getting really close to being able to predict with certainty that we are
descended from John COCKERELL the coachman of London, England.
We should have the reports sometime the end of January or the first of
February.
I will be really disappointed if these reports do not match the others! I
hope that I can deal with the results if they do not match?
To those who have not committed to the DNA project PLEASE reconsider joining
us. The more reports we get the better. So far seven members of the
Cockrell (all spellings) have submitted their DNA. The first four kits
match.
Again Here is the link to our DNA project
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Cockrill/
If anyone cannot afford to submit their families report - please email me
privately as we can
solicit funds from others in the group to assist with the project.
THE FOLLOWING IS REALLY IMPORTANT! If I am crazy please let the group
known!
2. How can I say with certainty that John the coachman is our ancestor?
Not sure but consider
the following fact.
It seems that the Coombs family of the Northern Neck is from St Benet's,
Paul's Wharf, London, England. Folks this is very significant to Cockrill
(all spellings)researchers. They came to the Northern Neck of Virginia in
the 1660 time period - the same time our Cockerell families came.
For years we have suspected that we are descended from John Cockerell the
Coachman.
I have thought that we are descended of the John Cockerell whose family is
in Saint Benet's, Paul's Wharf, London, England.
Is this an accident? I do not think so. Perhaps the Anderson, Brown,
Combes, Cockrills, Brownes, Heabords, Presley's and other families came from
the same area. If Paul and I can find these names in Saint Benet's, Paul's
Wharf, London, England we may have done the impossible.
Serious researchers say that we must trace a family that lived near our
families and trace their migration pattern to get information on our
families.
Merry Christmas to each and every Cockrill family in America.

Here is information on St Benet Paul's Wharf for those who may be
interested. (Jack Can you help me search through these records when I am in
Salt Lake the week of January 8th. I think this is going to be a huge
project. Just hope the altitude does not bother this old man!
If anyone can assist with information on the following please feel free to
join us.
I have two wonderful maps that shows where Saint Benet's, Paul's Wharf,
London, England is located in the West side of London very close to the
Thames River. Pershaps we are related
to that Shakespeare guy. What was his name? Does anyone have access to
Sparacio's records?
Have we missed Cockrill information in the Northern Neck?
St Benet Paul's Wharf (a.k.a. St Benet's Welsh Church), Queen Street (city
centre) was destroyed by the Great Fire of 1666, and rebuilt. St Peter
Paul's Wharf (city centre) was united to St Benet Paul's Wharf in 1670, and
in 1879, both were united to St Nicholas Cole Abbey. Since that time, St
Benet has been used by a Welsh congregation. Its Anglican parish records are
in the Guildhall Library:
JACK - Here are the records we need to search!
Anglican (Church of England) baptisms, 1619-1877 and Welsh congregation
baptisms,
1880-1931; Anglican marriages, 1619-1879; banns, 1754-91; and burials,
1619-1853. Later registers of the Welsh congregation are held by the
incumbent. For Anglican baptisms and marriages of St Benet's parish from
1879, see St Nicholas Cole Abbey. A partial index to baptisms and marriages
1619-1879 is in the IGI.
A Church has stood on this site since the year 1111 A.D., dedicated to St.
Benet (an abbreviation of St Benedict, 420-480 A.D. founder of the
Benedictine Monastic Order). Paul's Wharf recently excavated to reveal its
Roman Foundations was close by on the riverside, and over the centuries
was the main landing stage for this part of the City. A little to the west
stood the Watergate of Baynard's Castle, frequently mentioned in church
records, and part of the sad story of both Queen Anne Boleyn and Lady Jane
Grey. Both Church and Castle were destroyed in the Great Fire of 1666.
The present church by Sir Christopher Wren was built by his Master Mason
Thomas Strong and completed in 1683. It is a particularly valuable example
of Wren's work, for it is one of only four churches in the City that escaped
damage in the 1939-45 war, and remains basically as Wren built it. From the
outside it is seen that ti is built of red and blue bricks (unusual for
Wren) with stone quoins, and with carved stone garlands over the windows. It
has a hipped roof on the north side. The Tower, built on the site of the
original, contains the base of the old Tower to a height above ground of
some twelve feet, but encased by new brick and stone, This is surmounted by
a dome and cupola, topped by a Ball and Weathervane, and rises to a height
of 115 feet to produce an elegant and attractive edifice.
The interior of the church is practically square, and it still retains its
galleries, west and north on the sides of the tower. The Reredos, the Altar
(very baroque and of Dutch origin), the pulpit by Grinling Gibbons,
originally marked on its panels with the Royal Cypher and "Donum (given)
1683", the Altar rails, the attractive marble font and its carved wood
cover, are all part of the original furniture of the church. The magnificent
carved door case is unique with the Stuart Coat of Arms given by Charles II
above it. The set of sanctuary chairs was given by Sir Leoline (Llewellyn)
Jenkins, Judge of the High Court of Admirality, later Secretary of State to
Charles II. (Stolen in 1972)
Vandals set fire to the interior of the church in 1971 but damage was
confined to the north-east corner. The whole of the interior was however
affected by the intense heat. During the ensuing restoration the organ built
by J.C. Bishop in 1833 was rebuilt in its original position in the west
gallery by Messrs Hill Norman and Beard, and is a fine example of a small
organ of the period. The church was reopened in May 1973.
In 1652 Inigo Jones 'the king's architect' was buried in St Benet, with his
father and mother. A copy of the inscription on the original memorial, which
perished in the Fire, has been placed above the site of the original vault.
In St Benet Henry Fielding, author of Tom Jones, married his second wife in
1747. The church is mentioned by Shakespeare (who once owned a house nearby)
in Twelfth Night, Act V, Scene 1. The clown having received two pieces of
gold from the duke says;
"Primo, secundo, tertio, is a good play; and the old saying is, 'the third
pays for all':
the triplex, sir, is a good tripping measure; or the bells of;' Saint
Bennet, sir. may put you in
mind; one, two, three.
But the duke replies You can fool no more money out of me at this throw
Today there are two bells, one dated 1633 and the other 1685. St Benet was
the Parish, Church of Doctors Commons which stood at the north-west
corner of the churchyard where Faraday House now stands a legal
institution which amongst its many and complex activities could provide
facilities for hasty marriages.
This probably accounts for the fact that there were 13,423 marriages
solemnized in the church between 1708 and 1731. The Commons occupied the
north gallery, paying five pounds per annum per household for its upkeep, as
well as paying for the Lector (a curate)
On the front centre panelling of the gallery can be seen a Cartouche of the
Royal Arms, with an escutcheon of the arms of the Kingdom of Hanover
(painted in 1837) the last time it was used in this country, to the west
of it the fouled Anchor of the Court of Admirality, representing Civil Law,
and to the east of it the Pallium of Canterbury, representing the
Ecclesiastical Law of the Realm. Doctor's Commons came to an end and was
demolished to make way fo: Queen Victoria Street in 1867.
St Benet has been the Church of the College of Arms since 1555, when Phillip
and Mary gave Derby House standing, at the north-east corner of the
Churchyard, to the Heralds. Since that time they have had their own seats in
the church. The burial of at least twenty-five Officers of Arms, starting
with Sir Gilbert Dethick in 1584, is recorded in the Registers, together
with a large number of Domestic Staff. There are several Memorials in the
church one to the memory of John Charles Brook, Somerset Herald, who was
one of sixteen people crushed to death when George III and Queen Charlotte
visited the Haymarket Theatre in 1794. It was to this church on 2nd March
1984 that the Kings, Herald and Pursuivants of Her Majesty's College of
Arms, together with the Duke of Norfolk, Earl Marshal of England, the Earl
of Arundel. Deputy Earl Marshal, and the Heralds Extra Ordinary, processed
from the College to give thanks on the occasion of the Quincentenary of
their Incorporation as a College in 1484.
The Flags hanging in the church are the personal arms of the thirteen
members of the College with the Duke of Norfolk's Banner completing the set.
On the east wall (there is a seventeenth century carved and painted Coat of
Arms of the College, while on the north wall can be seen the Garter Board
the personal Arms, of each Garter Principal King of Arms since the inception
of the Office in 1398.
The church of St Peter Paul's Wharf, or St Peter Parva (the little) stood at
the south-west corner of what is now the International Headquarters of the
Salvation Army. I was destroyed in the Fire of 1666 and was not rebuilt. The
parish was amalgamated with St Benet, but the congregation maintained their
own services, service books, churchwardens and parish clerk and their
separate records until 1867 and their own burial ground until 1838.
The Parish Records, which go back to the reign of the First Elizabeth
contain many references to the Welsh, and there was a considerable presence
here, stretching back probably to about 1320 when they were evicted from the
Tower Hill area by a Papal Bull. Elizabeth settled her Imbroyderers in the
parish, and they had their Alms Houses here. The Broderers City Livery
Company probably started here, the Dyers also were strongly connected with
the church, and later the Royal College of Physicians came into being in the
parish.
St Benet is the Metropolitan Welsh Church. The Welsh Anglicans had as long
ago as the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries arranged for services in the
Welsh language to be held from time to time whenever a priest was available,
and it is on record that such a service was held at St Paul's Covent Garden
in 1715. They obviously longed for a church of their own where Prayer Book
services in the Welsh language could be held regularly, and some
correspondence on this question appeared in The Record, a church weekly
publication, in the 1830s. In 1843, owing to the zeal of Lord Powis and
another eminent London Welshman, Mr William Jones, a Barrister, St
Etheldreda, Ely Place, Holborn, was obtained from the National Society for
the use of the Welsh Anglicans at an annual rental of £105, and a full-time
priest was appointed. There they remained until 1876 when St Etheldreda was
sold by public auction. The Welsh congregation failed in their attempt to
buy the church, and so once again they were without a home, although the
vicar of St Nicholas Cole Abbey kindly allowed them the use of his church
for one service each Sunday. At that time, several city churches were
scheduled for demolition, among them St Benet. The Priest in Charge, who had
remained with his flock, sought and obtained support for his suggestion that
St Benet be not demolished but given to the Welsh congregation for their
use. An Order in Council signed by Queen Victoria removed St Benet from the
list of churches to be demolished and granted the use of the church to the
Welsh Anglicans for the conduct of services "according to the Rites of the
Church of England" in perpetuity. The first Welsh service was held in St
Benet in 1879 and they have continued to be held ever since. The Anglican
Church in Wales at that time was part of the Province of Canterbury and
remained so until the Welsh Church Act was implemented in 1920 when the
disendowed and disestablished ' 'Church-in-Wales came into existence. There
had been a great deal of objection to the Act, parades and demonstrations,
some of them in London, were held, Members of Parliament were lobbied, and
on one occasion the bishops of the then four Welsh Dioceses, St Asaph,
Bangor, St David's and Llandaff, were in London together to show their
disapproval. They attended a service of Holy Communion in St Benet, and
their signatures appear in the church register, St Benet, however, remained
as it always had been and still is attached to the Church of England in
the Diocese of London. In 1954, in the reorganisation of he City churches
and parishes, St Benet became one of the City Guild Churches

So, is the Thomas Cockrell that is named in his father, Thomas Cockerell's
will, the father of Sanford Cockrell, husband of Elizabeth Greathouse? And,
is the Thomas Cockrell named in his father's will, the husband of Elizabeth
Huey? I'm trying to find out who the parents are of Thomas Cockrell, husband
of Elizabeth Huey. The Sanford named in the will of Thomas Cockrell for sure
isn't mine as my Sanford was born around 1804, but it sure is a common name in
this family. The birthdate of my Sanford is taken from census records, he
states he's 46 years old in the 1850 census of Ouachita Parish, LA:
1850 Census Ouachita Parish, Louisiana:

My Sanford Cockrell, born 1804, was living near his brother, James, and his
mother, Elizabeth Huey Cockrell Dickerson in 1850. This same Sanford
Cockrell is living next to Charles S. Cockrell in the 1840 Census of Ouachita
Parish, LA and is living next to James Huey, 3rd Esq., James Huey and James
Cockrell(his brother?) in the 1830 Census of Ouachita Parish, LA.
I do have some information about the family of James Huey, the father of
Elizabeth Huey, that may shed some light on the Cockrells, as James Huey states
in his pension application of 19 Apr 1838 that "he was born in Augusta Co. VA,
had left there at the age of 14 for South Carolina; settled in Chester
County where he remained until January 1, 1812, when he left for Louisiana; that
he was in Ouachita Pary by April 1812." This seems like the same migration
pattern that Thomas Cockrell and Elizabeth Huey took as they are in the 1790
Census of Chester Co., SC living next to James Hughey and the Cockrell family
in the 1800 Census in Chester Co., SC, in the 1810 Census of Chester Co., SC
then in the 1820 Census for Ouachita Parish, LA living next to James Huey,
Jr. and close to John Huey.
I will look for more info about Cockrells in N. Virginia and post what I
find.

In looking back over the work presented in Jim's publication, I have a couple of questions concerning the death date of Thomas Cockrell/Cockerill on p 463 -465. (Thomas said to be the son of John Cockrell and Ann Remy/Ramey)
In the will of Thomas (below) at the very end it states that "At a court held for Loudoun County September 18, 1788. This will and prove the oaths of Robert BLAND, Enoch Meinefee?? there of and at another court held for the said county June 18, 1788 this said Jeremiah Hutchison and witness thereof ordered to be granted. ???? ( p 464)"
On p. 465 item 2 g regarding Elizabeth COCKERILLE TRIPLETT the following statement is given: "He is said to have married Elizabeth Cockerill, daughter of Thomas Cockerill, whose will was proved in Loudon County, VA, Sept. 8, 1778, naming amoung other children " daughter Elizabeth Triplett"
Is the 1788 date given in Thomas' will a typo which should actually read 1778?
Also, Elizabeth Triplett is said to have died about 1805 and that her husband Francis Triplett married a 2nd time after her death. However, the will of Francis Triplett was proved on November 22, 1785 which is 20 years prior to the date of death given for Elizabeth COCKERILLE TRIPLETT. Any thoughts on this one?
Will of Thomas Cockerill
In the name of God Amen, I Thomas COCKERILL of Loudoun County and Cameron Parish being in good health and sound memory, but calling to mind the uncertainty of this transitory life knowning it is difficult for all men once to die and being desirous of much as is in me to prevent all difference and dispute that may arise out after my decease about my temporal estate do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following principally I give my soul to Almighty God who gave it meaning he will receive it though the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ and my body to the earth to be buried at the discretion of my executors hereafter mentioned. Item: I give to my son Thomas COCKERILLE my lease for the plantation where on I now live to him and his heirs forever.
Item: I have yet three slaves yet unmentioned and ungiven to wit Sarah, Will and Tom my will and desire is that at my decease if any of these slaves given to my three younger sons, Sanford, Thomas and Benjamin shall be dead or increase so as far one of their part to be of more value that the part of slaves that I havegive to another then I desire the deficiency to be made as equal as possibly can be. I give to my sons Jeremiah, Sanford, Thomas and Benjamin all the rest of my estate that is not already to be equally divided between them and their heirs forever.
Lastly I nominate and appoint my sons Jeremiah and Sanford my Executors of this my last will and testament revolking and disanulling all formal wills hither to by me and made allowing and confirming this to be my last will and testament. One thing I have noticed that I would like to correct is the following:
Peter Cockrell b approx 1725 and died in 1803 in Prince William Co Va was
married to a Frances (Francis) Carter. Some have her as Francis Thorn .
Her step father was William Thorn. She was a half sister to John Thorn b

Dear Cockrell - Cockrill Cousins,
In January 2002 I started mailing the 100 copies of Cockrill Families of
Northern Virginia. Soo those who have a copy have had almost three years to
review
the information presented therein.
It was my hope that we would be able to add information and correct mistakes
in Cockrill Families of Northern Virginia.
I must admit that I have been to close to the forest to see the trees.
(Or something like that?)
With our DNA reports (4 in) and two more coming in we have new possibilites
to consider.
We need more submissions - Please help us! 6 is not nearly enough!
I have a few questions and comments.
a. Chapter 4 is a very important chapter in the book as it relates to all
the other
chapters and families. Does any one have infomation that may help us
connect our Northern Virginia Cockrill ancestors?
b. How many of us subscribe to this mailing list?
c. Can those on the list help with passing the word on our Cockrill DNA
project?
We need more Cockrill male submissions!
d. Are their major mistakes in the book? Yes I expected them!
e. I have only four request for more books. So actually I printed about
the correct
number of books.
f. Do you see relationships in the book? Do you have additional important
items of documentation? Would love to get your corrections!
g. It is starting to look like John Cockrell the Coachman of Saint Benets,
Paul's Wharf, London, London, England may be our common ancestor! Any
thoughts? Yes this may be crazy - but fun to think about.
h. I am going to the Library in Salt Lake from January 8 to January 15,
2005 - Will see what I can find on John Cockrell the Coachman. Has anyone
tried to find more information on this man?
Jack Olsen - Do you want to help me do some research in these records at St
Benets, Paul's Wharf, London, England?
i. Does anyone have more information on the Northern Virginia Cockrill
families?
j. Any comments on the list of Cockrill emigrants to America 1639 -1678?
(see page 52 of book)
Please send comments to COCKRELL-L(a)rootsweb.com
Please do not send comments to me.

Rosemary, I have many of the same questions, and would appreciate any impute
that would provide some answers. I have always assumed that my Cockrell line
went back to Thomas Cockrell, b-abt 1630 who was found in York and New Kent
counties, Va. But now I find that my DNA matches to Moses Cockrell and John
Cockrell, both sons of Thomas Cockrell and Eliz. Ann Ramey, a descendant of John
Cockrell and Hannah Cole. Am I correct in assuming that perhaps this John
Cockrell and my Thomas Cockrell could be brothers. This would explain how my DNS
matches to the John Cockrell/Hannah Cole family. This blows my mind.
Jack Olson
I would be interested to know the dates for each of the lines which have
submitted DNA for the Cockrell project. As Jim points out, 4 of these
lines share a common ancestor but the question remains - which ancestor do
we share?? How are these lines related? What is the time line on each
of these lines?
My line descends from Moses Cockrell b. ca. 1725 in Westmoreland, VA and his
wife, Jane Young. Moses Cockrell died October 19, 1798 in White Oaks,
Fairfield Co., So. Carolina. Our line continues from Moses Cockrell's son,
Nathaniel Cockrell b. ca. 1763 and his wife, Rebecca Harrison.
Moses Cockrell had two sons who were living at his death. Jeremiah and
Nathaniel COCKRELL were named in their father's will. Children of these
two COCKRELL's are found in Montgomery, KY, Memphis, TN, Lancester Co.,
SC, Nouxbee Co., MS, Lee Co., Misissipppi, as well as Texas.
Hopefully by looking at the date of birth of each of the generations
involved in these lines we will be able to get a clearer picture of the
connection of these lines. Given that a generation is considered about
20 years then we can begin to see more clearly which "branch of the tree"
that the earliest proven ancestor belongs.
According to the research of Jack Olsen and others, Moses COCKRELL is the
son of Thomas COCKRELL b. ca 1697 in Westmoreland, VA and Elizabeth Ramey.
They had sons, Sanford COCKRELL, Moses COCKRELL, John COCKRELL and Jermiah
COCKRELL. The question remains........which ancestor do each of the DNA
families share in common? Will Moses COCKRELL be the common link or will
it be Thomas COCKRELL or perhaps the father of Thomas?
Anyone have any thoughts?

I think this DNA study is GREAT! I descend from Moses Cockrell of South
Carolina b. 1725. How exciting that we are finally able to connect 4 of
these families!
I hope Kay can find someone to join this study from the Jacob Cockrell line.
My children also share her line through their dad who was a 2nd cousin to
Kay. Mike's grandmother, Emma Cockrell Edwards was the daughter of
Samuel Jefferson Cockrell. We both had Cockrell grandmothers!
Thanks for keeping ua posted!
Rosemary
Dear Cockrill Cousins,
We have had two Cockrill male descendants request their kits their
ancestors.
William Cockril of King George County, Virginia
William Cockrill of Allen County, Virginia
We should have results some time in January if all things go right!
I am really excited as I believe both of these men are my relatives.
Sure hope we get a positive match!
I will give you an update as they are received and sent to Family Tree DNA.
So we have six of the major Cockrill families who have submitted for our
project.
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Cockrill/
Does anyone know male Cockrill descendants from Fairfax, Northumberland or
Westmoreland County
Cockrill families?
Can you help us find other male Cockrill descendants who can trace to the
early Cockrill
families especially those of Northern Virginia.

ISO bmom Kim Jarvis (Donato, Donati, Domato, Anderson, Cockrel, others???) Could be Patricia Barwarth (Thompson, Barworth)
Looking for a Christmas miracle. My newfound siblings; Jason, Cynthia, Michelle and Lorraine and I met for the first time Thanksgiving weekend. We were really hoping to find out if Gina and Bill were indeed related to us so they could join us. However I am coming to total dead ends in the search for Kim. I cannot find any more information on her and at a total loss as to what to do next to find her . . . any information anyone has or any ideas, please let me know.
Here we are in the order of our births:
Gina Marie Barwarth (Barworth) (Not confirmed that we are related - she has a different bio-dad that she has located, however he does not know bio-mothers whereabouts - her biomother's name was Patricia Barwarth - maiden name Thompson. There is a Patricia Lynn Thompson in CA, however she is NOT the same person. Gina has written to every Patricia / Kim Thompson or Johnson or Barwarth or Jarvis and anyone with the same birthdate - her biomother's birthdate is 12/19/1950 - however no one in her family knows her SS# nor has had contact with her or knows where she is at. After she left William Barwarth, her whereabouts are completely unknown with the exception of one telephone call to her sister in all these years saying she was living in Arizona with a man named Eric Jarvis. Patricia did not like her name and went by Kim.

Then . . . Patricia/Kim leaves William (aka Red) and is now with Eric Jarvis (that is assuming these two individuals are the same) No one knows anything about Kim (my biomother Kim) - where she came from, her real birthdate, her real name, etc.

When I found Jason, Renee and Loni, their amom gave me some information - I'll paste this below - very similar to what I have been posting -
Last known information on Kim was she may have been moving to Heber, Utah. She may also be Patricia Lynn Thompson (she was married to William Barwarth) born 12/19/1950. However this is unconfirmed and they may be two totally different people. We are having a hard time determining this. However Patricia went by the name Kim and was last known to be living in Arizona with a man named Eric Jarvis. (Who is my biofather - have located him - but he does not have any information to provide on her)
Known and found siblings:
1. Me - Lisa Marie Jarvis - 8/23/1973
2. Lorraine Marrianne Jarvis - 4/12/1978
3. Jason Bourough (Has also been shown as Burl and Bruno) Jarvis - 7/28/1974
4. Loni Michelle Jarvis - 5/15/1981
5. Renee Castle Jarvis - 10/21/1982
6. Unknown baby's name . . . killed by Eric - Unknown sometime mid-80s
Possibly siblings - still unconfirmed - we had a DNA test done and it showed we were related - however her papers say birth mom was Patricia Thompson - she didn't like the name Patricia so went by the name Kim - married at 1 time to William Barwarth - she moved to Arizona with an Eric Jarvis- need to find out if Kim Jarvis is the same person as Patricia Thompson:
Gina Marie Barwarth (has also been spelled Barworth) - 2/23/1969
Bill A. Barwarth - 11/18/1970
There may be more unfound siblings . . . we do not know
-Eric and Kim may have married in May of 1972 in Reno NV. (I have checked with all counties in Nevada, no record is shown)
-In 11/1985 Kim committed to Castle View Mental hospital in Price Utah
-DOB that Kim gave to different people: 8/1/56 - 12/19/56 - 8/19/55 - 8/15/55 - 11/19/55 born in L.A., CA.
-Kim's listed aliases: Mathews, Lotsos, Jarvis, Donato, Donati, Domato, Dongoto, Cockrell. In a mental hospital in Utah, was admitted as a Kim Anderson. **She may be Patricia Thompson / Barwarth??
-Kim is described as 5-7 and 155lbs, also described as 5-5 125lbs.
Kim was also a witness to a murder in San Lus Obispo, CA Medeuna / Hampton. I did obtain newspaper articles from this, however it did not give any information I could use to find her - or that I can figure out on my own anyway.
I did try calling Castle View and they told me they could not give me any information of any kind as it was personal information. So, I am pretty much at a dead end on what to do next to find her.
Dear Cockrill Cousins,
We have a match on all four Cockrill families who submitted their DNA.
Are we all related?
Will update their earliest Ancestor and the County where that Ancestor lived
when I receive
that information.
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Cockrill/
I finally have a Cockrill Cousin a descendant of William Cockrill of King
George
who is submiting his DNA. Will have the results in about 30 days. I cannot
wait
to receive the results.
Working on getting a descendant of William Cockrill of Allen County,
Kentucky.
Can we have a discussion group at? Cockrell-L(a)rootsweb.com
Are there other Cockrill Families who would like to join us?
Are you out there Kay?
thanks

In addition to the general relatedness question, I wondered if the John Cockeril of Indian visage in Henry Harrison's Company (1756) might have been John Cockrill's (1757-1837) father. The geography and the date make that a possibility. If so, the "Indian mixture" most would, most likely, stem from the female line and hence the Y-DNA unhelpful. But, perhaps, on the other hand, the "Indian mixture" was from a male Indian and a captured white female -an Indian DNA might show up.
Later. I gather that the "Indian" loci are elsewhere in the genome, anyway.
