I seriously doubt that Henry Clay Cockrell, b.2/14/? in KY-d.7/30/20 in TX who married Sarah Frances Harper, b.9/11/70 in KY-d. 1/19/55 in TX is the son of William Andrew Cockrell, Sr. and Sarah Spratt. It might be possible that he is the grandson of William Andrew Cockrell.
Have you tried searching the Texas Death Index for a death certificate number and ordering a death certifcate. Hopefully it will give you the name of his parents and also where he died.

i saw your message and i see that Rosemary sent you some info. for the parents of your Henry Clay Cockrell born in Kentucky. Be sure to know that William Andrew Cockrell who married Sarah/Sally Spratt did not marry twice. His son did marry a Mary Smith tho. This is my own family of William and Sarah as your Henry Clay Cockrell and my Peter Moffit Cockrell were brothers. Peter is my great, great grandfather and his 1st wife, Julia Anderson is my great, great grandmother. I have thoroughly researched much of the William Andrew Cockrell family and have been to Mt. Sterling, Ky where this family lived and met relatives there. I will gladly share so much that i have which is documents, pictures of cemeteries and actually pics of the land where William and Sarah lived in KY. It is beautiful! Henry Clay Cockrell was born 1845 in South CArolina and not Kentucky. This is all documented. William and Sarah would travel back and forth from Ky to SC and the children of theirs are born bo!
th places. And I have thatHenry did die in Ky tho in 1849. but now this must be wrong if you Have Henry Clay marrying Sarah Harper and having all these children. Let me ask my sis on this date she had for his death. I do know this tho. That Henry Clay himself, who was living in Lexington Ky and is the famous person from Ky history did stay alot at William Cockrell's house in Mt. STerling and William and Sarah gave him his own room there and i understand that he would stay there alot and write and actually kept personal diaries and papers and would hide them in the walls of the house. Well to find the diaries would have been a treasure for us all so i am sure that your Henry Clay Cockrell was named after Henry Clay himself. William and Sarah had 14 children. Rosemary has some info. but i have so much more of course. She is related to our William thru a brother of his who was Nathaniel Cockrell. When i hear from you tell me what you wish to know and i will send email. I have!
met relatives of William Andrew Cockrell (jr), b. 1834 in Ky and he married Mary Ann Smith and have much on this family now. Another brother to your Henry Clay Cockrell who was Jeremiah Cockrell, born 1828 in Ky married an Elizabeth Vichers. I am thrilled that you are doing research too and would love to be in touch. Hope to hear from you soon. Marilyn
Hi Cousins, Do any of you know anything about a Samuel Cockrell born about 1820 in Randolph County, Missouri? He is suppose to have married Judith Ann Dameron on May 15, 1845, and she was descended from Sarah Ball who was related to Pres. George Washington's mother, May Ball. I have many Samuel Cockrells in my computer, but I don't show a connection to the Presidents family. There is a society called the Presidents Family Assoiciation, and one of their officers, who is also a former President General of the Sons of the American Revolution, James R. Westlake posted his family tree in that society's news letter and I was hoping some of you might have the parents of this Samuel Cockrell. Thanks for any help. Tom Green

This could be your family. They had a son named Henry Clay Cockrell who died when young, however, it is possible that one of his brothers named a child after him, so perhaps it is a place to start looking. This is all I have on this family. Hope it helps! Rosemary

Today I received the following from a fellow lister and I thought it
important
to pass along to others who might relate to it. The writer is unknown. It
was
so touching and meaningful to me that I just had to share it with my
fellow
listers and genealogy friends. I didn't say so, but was hoping that it
would be
passed along and shared with all like-minded researchers. I know it made
me
feel much less guilty about all the time and money I spend on my family
history search.
God bless the writer of this!
We Are the Chosen
My feelings are in each family we are called to find the ancestors.
To put flesh on their bones and make them live again,
To tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know and approve.
To me, doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts but, instead,
Breathing life into all who have gone before.
We are the story tellers of the tribe.
We have been called as it were by our genes.
Those who have gone before cry out to us: Tell our story.
So, we do.
In finding them, we somehow find ourselves.
How many graves have I stood before now and cried? I have lost count.
How many times have I told the ancestors you have a wonderful family, you
would be proud of us?
How many times have I walked up to a grave and felt somehow there was love
there for me? I cannot say.
It goes beyond just documenting facts. It goes to who I am and why I do
the things I do?
It goes to seeing a cemetery about to be lost forever to weeds and
indifference
And saying I can't let this happen.
The bones here are bones of my bone and flesh of my flesh.
It goes to doing something about it.
It goes to pride in what our ancestors were able to accomplish.
How they contributed to what we are today.
It goes to respecting their hardships and losses, their never giving in or
giving up,
Their resoluteness to go on and build a life for their family.
It goes to deep pride that they fought to make and keep us a Nation.
It goes to a deep and immense understanding that they were doing it for us.
That we might be born who we are.
That we might remember them. So we do.
With love and caring and scribing each fact of their existence,
Because we are them and they are us.
So, as a scribe called, I tell the story of my family.
It is up to that one called in the next generation,
To answer the call and take their place in the long line of family
storytellers.
That is why I do my family genealogy,
And that is what calls those young and old to step up
And put flesh on the bones.
