Jim,
The Jackson list has a DNA study going on and I believe the Wallace line.
It is my understanding that in order to participate you must be male and
have the surname of the family......ie: Jim Burgess won't work you would
need to find a male who has the last name of Cockrill/Cockrell.
You might want to check with Mary Harkey Russell
bird(a)glasgow-ky.com who is the list mom for the Jackson folks. I also have
this address for her maryiola(a)alltel.net She can probably direct you to
information on DNA testing.

Unfortunately that's as far back as I have.
Dear Cockrill Genealogist,
Has anyone thought about doing a Cockrill DNA comparison?
Example:
My ancestor William Cockrill married Hannah Anderson.
Wiliam Cockrill who married Frances Jones is believed by most of us to be
his son.
I believe that I am correct in saying that if we could find male Cockrill
descendants
who have a direct Cockrill line we could compare the DNA and determine if
they are related.
It would not be 100% proof but very close.
Perhaps we could do the same with several of the other Cockrill lines.
Not sure how much it costs, but believe the individual families could share
in the cost and
find out which lines are related. This would not cost much if we shared in
the effort.
I know that our family would be happy to join in the effort.
Perhaps someone may know of a company that will organize this for us.
I have not been receiving email, I have resubscribed to the list.
Please include me in the mailing until I know that I am receiving emails
from the Cockrill list.
Is this a good idea.
thanks
Jim Burgess
