Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Without realizing it I have been unsubscribed from the list for awhile! Now
that I know that, Tom has ask that I share with the list the following
information, I'm simply copying my note to Tom here:
-------------------------------

I didn't realize I was not subscribed to the list! Had wondered why I
never saw anything from you guys. Since I've been away I have slowly
but surely been able to add to my base of information on the South Carolina
Cockrells, especially the ones in the area of old Edgefield County, SC.
Some of my material is published under the cover A FLOCK OF COCKRELLS. I
have put together a booklet under that name for the library here and also
have posted outlines of some of my family on Rootsweb and Gencircle. I have
connected with several cousins and am working on proving connections with
the family in Ala and westward. Have not really been able to devote much
time to research but am trying.

------------------------------------------------
I will gladly share any information I have. Most of the material other
than my SC family of John Cockrell/ Doreatha Livingston is gleaned and only
serves as a basis for searching but maybe it can help get some of us
together. I look forward to sharing

Good Day Fellow Researchers,
I wanted to pass on some information to aid in your research. Rootsweb
has provided a archival retrieval system that some of you may not be
aware. The system was started in 1997 when the list was first
initiated. All queries from 1997 to present can be found and reviewed.
An additional system was initiated a couple of years ago that provides
for threading of queries. Threading simply means that queries "talking"
on the same subject are grouped together.
I hope I've made it sound exciting and given some you some new
information. How do I find access the information? The easiest way
to access ALL the functions is at the following address:
http://resources.rootsweb.com/~clusters/surnames/c/o/COCKRELL/
You should find all the search engines related to COCKRELL resources.
Everything is straightforward with the exception of the GenConnect at
RootsWeb. This is where the threaded queries are found. Although the
researcher is able to view the past messages it is STRONGLY advised that
they sign up to current messages. The researcher must first click on
the query button. A page of threaded messages will then appear. Some
may be seeing the page for the first time. Look at the top of the page
for manipulation of viewing. The bottom of the page asks for your email
address. Be sure to say "ADD". You will then be notified when someone
posts to the query board in the same manner as the Cockrell-l. If you
are not sure if you are subscribed go ahead and do it again. All that
will happen is you will get a reminder that you are already subscribed.
Please!!! This is important to me that we get full participation. If
you have questions send me an email at kytrace(a)worldnet.att.net.
