Good Morning,
I feeling like the boy who cried wolf today. I will be keeping the
Cockrell-l list. My Tipton-l was successfully passed today to it's
original owner. My wife is going to help with running the other two
lists. Sorry for any concern that I may have caused any of you.
Tom
Good Days,
For our American freinds earlier this week I made contact with our English
friends seeking information on our surname. I have a couple of return
emails with family ties that share our surname. Terry sent this list and I
thought you may be interested.
For our English friends, I am the list manager for the Cockrell surname and
it's variant spellings. The list is looking for connections anywhere we can
find them.
Thank You,
Tom Cockerel

tom: are you the one who graciously sent information to my daughter for her
Cockeril line? She is the granddaughter of Coy Cockeril. Margaret >Andrew

We have posted messages everywhere we can think of trying to find the
husband's name of Margaret. One suggestion, and it might have come from you,
too....was Presley Cockerel. Any verification of that?
I have gotten no leads out of Wythe County VA which is where they had their
first two children. I have gotten nothing from Rockingham Co. I tried both
states, too. Rockingham Co VA AND NC just in case I had the wrong state
written down.
I should probably leave you alone since your health is poor but you seem to
be the only one with answers.
thanks,
Pam

Good Day,
I am finding it quite difficult to continue to maintain
the list. My
problem is due to health reasons not due to lack of
interest. Should
anyone have questions please contact me at

Tom Cockerel
I'm a great-great granddaughter of Moses Cockrell, son of Thomas & Elizabeth Huey Cockrell, who came to Ouachita Parish from South Carolina in the early 1800's. Moses's son, Thomas, and Thomas's wife, Susan Simpkins, are my great-grandparents. I, too, have been trying to prove there is a Charles Cockrell that these people descended, but to no avail. Thomas & Elizabeth originally settled in what is now Jackson Parish, although it was Ouachita Parish at that time. Moses and his wife, Polly, were living in Jackson Parish in 1860 Census, along with Thomas and his first wife, Sarah Collie, and their children. My grandfather, Neil, always said they were buried in Jackson Parish but the cemetery has since disappeared. Mose Cockrell, as he was known, and Thomas were landowners and were wealthy at one time. After Thomas died, his brothers managed to get his property in their name and Thomas's family were left destitute. This caused a lot of hard feelings among the Cockrells in Louisiana and the Cockrell that went on to live in Shackelford County, Texas. My grandfather died a bitter man because he always felt that his uncles cheated him and his siblings out of their rightful inheritance. Moses did not go to Texas to live. He apparently lived in Jackson Parish until his death. However, records in Jackson Parish were burned when the courthouse burned; therefore, all records of births, deaths, marriages up until that time were destroyed. If anyone is interested in my information on this branch of the family, I will be glad to send. My e-mail address is: diddyw(a)bayou.com
