Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Fellow Researchers,
If you have not bookmarked the Archives for the Cockrell-l please do at
this time. The URL will give arvhived messages for 1997-1999. This is
a great place for new as well as those persons that have been on the
list awhile.

Hello List,
I see that I am not the only one with this problem. I have some input here.
I can combine the answers and let you know that I learned something. I may
be old but I am teachable. <GRIN> Bella M. Hughes was born January 29, 1955,
at Fort Leavenworth Army hospital in Leavenworth County, Kansas. Father was
Airman first class and is buried on the base there. Have been a talented
writer since the third grade when my poems were posted on the bulletin board.
Back to the web page thing. I have to use Ctrl + c to copy the information
and only from a word processor program. If this is in the Family Tree maker
Notes area it will not transfer to a web page because it is not a fully
functional word processor unless you have FTM 6.0. [I do not] So I do have
all of these documents in my Word 97 program. My stuff will not fit in the
Family Tree Maker Notes area since it is too lengthy.
Next to put the stuff on the web page it must be Ctrl + v to paste. And yes,
there is a difference when a person uses AOL. Other servers are less likely
to give so much grief to the user. Only I do not know how to use them. I am
not terribly computer smart. That would be my sister and she is a programer.
I do not understand her in conversation so that is no help.
Okay so the process is copy to Word then use Ctrl + c to copy then go to web
page and use Ctrl + v to paste. I am back at this again.
Bella
Hi Bella,
I posted the will of Moses Cockrell by copying it from my MSWord program and
pasting it on the site. It worked like a charm!

Hello,
I think I misread the statement that documents could be copied from a word
processor program and posted to the list on the webpage.
I tried and tired to do it but then I had to type in the deed by hand every
letter and legal term.
My query was regarding a deed stating that Morgan Cockrell had a first wife
by the given name of Disey. In all fairness it was necessary to post the
deed in question. So I started out thinking that the item could be copied
with the edit thing and pasted and no time or misspellings would have to be
ironed out. Not so.
Is this once again a hate for AOL? Sheesh, I can barely use this and I did
try others. I just cannot get any of them to work for me.
Maybe this is a problem in general? Has anyone managed to successfully copy
and paste from their word processor? Has every thing been typed in the old
fashioned way?
Has any one seen my mind? It seems to be lost to me.
Bella [I think]
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am not sure whether I have expressed the graditude to all of you the
way you have responded to my plea for conformation of the Cockrell. I
had all the responses in a folder that was lost in the crash but so very
many of you did respond. I proved to me that we have a good and viable
list. Most people expressed their gratitude for my assistance. I thank
each and everyone for the their thoughts.
The way that many of you have taken to the query and other resource page
is most astounding. Those that wrote about your family ties to me in my
first request now is the time to use the query page to meet others of
your same family line.
Just keep up the good work. I am so proud of this group. Be sure to
post your webpage address should you have one. This is very important
so that others may see an expanded version of your query.
Again, thanks, your efforts make me want to work a little harder to
assist when needed.
Tom Cockerel
This was a great find. If it is possible then this should be posted with the
Cockrell Bios. I believe you can cut and paste or refer to the URL address.
Hope we can get more like this. It definitely needs posting I will help if
you have trouble. I am good at crashing my system but it always comes back.
No need crashing yours.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
I must have too much time on my hands. Was trying to "fix" a problem
and had a computer crash. Lost all saved messages, address book and
bookmarks. If I owe you something send me a note to remind me what it
was. I am truly embarrassed. I guess that's why they call it disabled.

Hi there!
I went over to the web page from the address under the request for directions
to where the wills are posted. At the bottom of the page is the row of
"buttons" with cute little jigsaw pieces on them. The queries is the obvious
choice for me since I am familiar with that sort of thing.
There is a whole row of those little pieces and the last one for wills is
sort of scooted over. I am on AOL obviously so I cannot say what may be seen
from other servers but I had to slide the thing at the bottom of my window to
find wills. I wanted to post there so looking for this was a purpose.
I was just looking around and there is quite a bit of really nice stuff in
there already. The group has truly rallied around this idea. It is so great
to be able finally to see who is connected to what by who they list. I had a
great pile of print outs of email where those things had been posted and
sometimes I have gone through the pile trying to see how it all connected to
answer a question. That sure was a bulky method. My memory lives on paper
by the way. The short term memory is not so good. Well, now those things
are on the web page and I can use those old pages as mulch.
To create mulch from paper it has come to my attention that first the paper
should be wadded into paper balls. Not tight but balls. Then soak a pile of
those in a bucket for a long time. Cannot remember when I put it in but must
have been yesterday or so. Then add Miracle Grow to the recipe for gallons
like a Tablespoon per gallon and stir up this whole thing. Then put the wet
mess around the base of the garden area. It holds water and weeds will not
grow up through it. Also it breaks down into soil in about 2 to 5 months. I
also cover this with wood chips and grass clippings as instructed.
I have nearly 5 full boxes of this stuff from printing out emails and such
when things were located. What fit and I wanted to research further is all
in notebooks and little boxes. Now that I am sorting out what is not a
direct connection I am making mulch. By the way old mail does not go in this
and I have everything ever sent to me. My collection of 20 gallon plastic
storage boxes is sort of large now. I have them stored in our bus and my
separate storage shed. Far as I am concerned this new web page is a great
asset in Cockrell research. (sorry if I lumped in the other spellings)
Thanks Tom for putting this all together.

found
the following tombstones. I have a couple of dates that were hard to read
and I
have placed a question mark by those dates. Contact me and I will try to find
more info for you, if needed. There was one tombstone that is illegible for
now--
I need to take a magnifying glass and other tools to try to read it on my
return
trip.

Thomas J Cockrell son of Johnson Cockrell was born in 1826. His marriage to
Lititia Pitchford was in 1866 when Thomas was forty years old. Is this where
the controversy about Lititia's name comes from? Seddens or Pitchford? could
he have married before and she died or divorced him.
There are other adult Cockrell males in Fannin co. TX that are of an age to
be Thomas' sons but they are not Letitia's. The census shows them to be born
in Kentucky where most if not all of Thomas' children were born. Anyone?
Thomas J. Cockrell b: June 19, 1826 in Allen Co Kentucky
. +Lititia Pitchford or Seddens b: Abt. 1842

LOL I think I accidently un~~~~sub~~~~scribed (dont want to do it again)
when sending a description of how to do so to one of our cousins. LOL I
missed several days of Cockrell mail before I realized something was wrong.
Hello Gang,
If you have not signed up for the other pages do so. Start at the query
page that I have already put in your address. Go to the top of the
page to go to the other resources and put in you address at the bottom
of those pages. The whole process may take 30 minutes. I will be here
to help as I can.
Important:
I am requesting some feedback. Today I was thinking that since we can
thread (put related messages together) on the query page why not thread
by state. We could start a thread by those researching people in
Kentucky, WVA, Texas, Indiana, etc. I need some feedback. No use
starting something unless it will be used.
The reason that I think it is such a good idea is that you would KNOW
who is researching in a particular state and be able to contact someone
that may be able to help in your research. A person would be able to
bypass (pay less attention) to someone out of your state. The ancestor
may be across many states. The same query could be put in any or all
state threads.
Give me a show of hands. If it is positive then we can work out the
details on how to get something started. As an example my research is
mainly in KY, IN, and TN.
I can post to those states and maybe get connected to someone else.
Do not pass up this opportunity to vote. Even if you have nothing to
submit I am interested in your vote.
If you should have an idea on how to make this a better list please
contact me and we can "chew" it over and see how to implement your
ideas.
Always remember that this is your list. My job is to keep it running
and settle disputes. Suggestions and comments are always happily
received.
The URL for the query page is

I'm not certain if the following will be of interest to anyone or not, but in
May two granddaughters of Henry Ward Cockrill and Lucinda Boswell Allen
passed away. They were Mary Mildred Cockrill Cordle (b. 12-15-1911/d.5-5-1999
- daughter of Sarah Catherine Millard and Henry Edward Cockrill - born Rome,
Floyd County, GA died Rome, Floyd County, GA) and Pearl Cockrill Dimsey (b.
?, d. 5-31-1999 at age 99 - daughter of Laura Rosella Millard and John Calvin
Cockrill - bornVienna, Fairfax Co, VA; died Reston, Fairfax Co, VA).
I have additional information on both if anyone is interested.
