Saw your names on the ALA List. My wife has a Mary Margaret Cockrell born
in Al ca 1820's married a William Hiram Bennett. They settled in Winston
County, MS. Nothing else is known of her. Many of the Cockrells moved into
Noxubee County, Ala. Also, another set of Cockrells lived in the northern
part of Winston County - they have printed a semi-genealogy on their set.
The Cockrells in Noxubee County, MS named ever other child Moses - there are
seemingly dozens by that name. What are your names, I'll be glad to check
for you. Louis (kinfindr(a)explorecom.net)

Hi,
Just had an opportunity to visit the Cockrell Collections web page with the
genealogy for the Cockrell's of Northumberland Co., VA. The page is
jocono.html.
The information on that page is amazing. Does anyone know who posted that
genealogy. I didn't see any credits on the page.
Thanks,

Hi Kathleen,
I am most interested in your statement that you are a cousin of Archibald
Cockrell. I have not been able to connect him with what I call the Simon
Cockrell line. Have you been able to connect one of Simon Cockrell's
descendants with Archibald Cockrell? I am most interested in this connection!

Hi Kathleen,
I will be glad to help you in any way I can. You might want to subscribe to
the Pridgen "list" as it is a very good list, and they can give you more about
that family.
My Selah Pridgen, born about 1795, that married Archibald "Baldy" Cockrell,
was the daughter of Drewry Pridgen, born about 1757, and his wife Selah
"Sarah" Creekmore. They had 2 other daughters that married 2 of Baldy
Cockrell's brothers. Piety Pridgen, born born about 1788, Joseph Jacob
Cockrell, born about 1780 in Nash County, North Carolina. The third sister,
Elizabeth Pridgen, born 1794 in Nash County, NC married Vincent Cockrell, born
about 1793 in Nash County, NC.
The other siblings of Piety, Selah and Elizabeth Pridgen were Morning Pridgen,
born about 1789, who married Willie Bone; Dinah Pridgen, born about 1791; and
Nancy Pridgen born about 1801 who married William Lindsey. Their father,
Drewry Pridgen was the son of William Pridgen, born about 1720, who married
Morning Thomas on November 13, 1761. His father was Francis Pridgen, born
about 1690, who married Mary Fleming. In 1723 Francis Pridgeon was living at
Pridgeon's Point on the Chowan River, and he died in Bertie County, NC after
August 24, 1740.
If you will tell me how you are connected to this family I will be glad to
give you anything else I might have on your ancestors.

I am looking for anyone who has web pages for families in NC or people in your
family from NC that moved. I have sent mine out several times but, I would
love to look at others and see if I can find any info.

Dear listmembers:
I have decided to ask ALL listmembers to join me in a new venture. Even
those members that monitor the list can become actively involved in this
project. We all are located in various parts of the country. Most of us
get the local paper. I am suggesting that if an obituary of a COCKRELL
is found in your paper that it be sent to the listserver. Please do not
assume that someone else will send your obit. If you know any other
information on the person you may wish to include this as part of your
message. You may wish to extend this feature to persons that you know
are connected to the COCKRELL surname.
I will start the ball rolling with an obituary from 'The
