To Bob, ex-Retford,
I tried to access the site you gave for british history. My server didn't
locate it at the address as given.
Can you help me further? I believe he may be the George Cocking
(1794-1864) who lived in Broadholme at one time, later moving to Crowle. He was born in
Grove. George was the brother of my gg=grandmother, Elizabeth Cocking.
Thank you!
Lois

I am new to this List and have two COCKING roots.
1. John COCKING married Jane ANDREW 1804 at Spridlington, Lincs. They had
2 children at Spridlington, then moved to Askham in Nottinghamshire. John
may have died in 1837 at Askham without age.
There are several likely John COCKINGs born near Spridlington and Askham.
So identifying him is difficult.
2. I also have in another line Cath. COCKING married William LEE in 1732 at
Whitgift, Yorks (but close to Notts. and Lincs.). This is close to
Luddington where there are lots of COCKINGs, but no Catherine anywhere.
3. Not one of mine (I think), but may be of interest to somebody, is Geo.
COCKING found in the House of Lords Journal (www,british.history.ac.uk)1830
claiming coach travel Retford to London as witness for the East Retford
Election Bill. One of my other ancestors went on the same trip.
Bob. ex Retford.

Is anyone researching that family?
I have 2 Cocking Girls marrying into a Family and would love to know if the Girls are related?
1. Charlotte Cocking born Stainforth c1839, but changed her mind in a later census and said she was born Doncaster.
She married Edmund Burke in 1863
2. Emma Cocking born Docaster c1845
She married Joseph Goadby in 1868
Help with the Cockings would be appreciated
Thanks
Pete

Charles
A Question, how do you know his wife's MS? Do you have a narriage Certificate? that should give his Father's name.
First rule of Smee is never expect census ages to be correct, I always roumd down when I fill them in ;-)
I would wager a pint of ale he is the Thomas Cocking born 27 Aug 1811 and Christened 10 Sep 1811 at St Michael on Wyre, father was John, mother was Alice. Elswick was in that parish until 1835.
Good hunting
Pete
