Dear Michigan Cockings,
My Cocking family came from Notts to western New York, when Elizabeth
Cocking, daughter of William Cocking and Ann Shaw, married William Thompson in
Thorney. They emigrated to Monroe County, NY.in 1817.
They continue to correspond with English relatives and I have a Grand
Rapids, Michigan photo labelled only "Cocking", undated but from
before 1900 I would judge. However, Elizabeth Cocking's daughter-in-law
came from a family that moved to that area. I don't know if picture is from
that connection or from your branch of the family. Anyone interested?
Lois
Hi Bob,
I too haven't been working on this part of the family tree lately.
My family and yours were living next door to each other in the 1841 census - at Roscroggan -
Roscroggan
Thomas COCKING 55 Copper Miner Y (born in county)
Elizabeth COCKING 50 Y
Thomas COCKING 25 Y
William COCKING 15 Y
Mary COCKING 15 Y
Stephen COCKING 13 Y
and next door, also at Roscroggan
James COCKING 25 Copper Miner Y
Bathsheba COCKING 20 Y
Stephen COCKING 6 Y
William COCKING 4 Y
James COCKING 2 Y
Have you found out anything about who the parents of these families are?
Does anyone know anything about Roscroggan - was it a mining village?
Regards,
Jennifer

Subject: Just checking
Hi all
Just checking with everyone. This list has been quiet for a long time. Just wondering how everyone is doing and if there are any roadblocks that I can help with. I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, in Calumet, about 30 miles from Central Mine where my Cocking line lived. If you can use some help from me let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Thanks for the email. I haven't worked on my family tree lately, but
plan to this summer. I would like to search out info on my grandmother
who came from Michigan. My grandfather was Hilary Cocking, but I
believe he was born in N Dakota.
I live in Washington state.
