Hi List,
In Jan 2003 there was a list item in respect to a William Cocking (b abt
1823) & Jane Mill (b 1827 ) of Keweenaw & Houghton Co's, Michigan,USA.
They married per FreeBMD as follows :
Jun Qtr 1848 Redruth Reg Dist, Cornwall, Vol 9, p 296.
If anything is known about William's parentage from his death record or
learnt from the above marriage record, I would appreciate receipt of this
information.
I suspect this family group is 1 of 2 major Cocking groups in the Keweenaw
& Houghton Co's,Michigan who may be related, contingent on what may be
known or learnt about William above.
Regards..Phil

Hi Bob & List,
I would be most interested in receiving a descendancy outline of the James
Cocking & Bathsheba Martin family to give me an idea of what family members
are known to have emigrated with them and the subsequent family events that
have taken place in either Wisconsin or Michigan,USA.
Either something along the above lines or any other information that may
relate or is known on the potential *several* children Bob alludes to as
follows..
Bob wrote..
>I know nothing about James or Bathsheba (Martin) Cocking except that they
>had several children and their Daughter Bathsheba, Married a Richard
>Coombs (or Coombes), etc <snip>
At this stage I have about 5 children born Cornwall to the family from
circa 1835-45 & with such a young family more children are very likely
b/chr Wisconsin or Michigan,USA.
The parallel Australian line (Thomas Cocking - Mary Ann Williams) bred like
our rabbits.
I am also interested in what entry point & route was used by such Cornish
emigrant families who then took up likely mining positions in Wisconsin &
Michigan in mid 1840's & 1850's.
Regards..Phil

Hi List,
I have sent Bob Wareham the starting details of his Bathsheba MARTIN family
*off list* on 2 Sep 2004.
Should there be anybody else on the list also with an interest in these
findings then please advise and I will also post this to the list or direct.
The parents of Bathsheba Martin fit ..
. a William Martin m 16 Apr 1803 Camborne - Mary Warren [ M002071 ] who
christen 11 chn at Camborne [ P002071 ] which includes Bob's interest -
Bathsheba Martin.
In some subsequent research of Martin,I believe this family line can be
quite easily traced back to the early 1740's even though there is some
minor conflicting date data.
But I won't spoil Bob's fun in tracking them down working back from the
information sent to him 02 Sep 2004.
Jennifer McReady (Vic,Aust) has kindly provided some additional details of
the 14 March 1812 Camborne,CON,Eng marriage of Thomas COCKING & Elizabeth
DUNSTONE..namely in respect to witnesses.
Again, Jennifer thanks for your contact & assistance.
Aside from a Mary Richards (a serial witness ) likely connected to the
local Curate, the other witness is shown as an Anthony MITCHELL(sic).
This information was valuable because ..
An Anthony MICHELL(sic) m 09 Jan 1808 Illogan,CON,Eng - Ann COCKING.
In brief ..
They have been found on the 1841 Illogan Census with one child..William <1821>.
& 2 chn have been found christened to the parents.. Susanna <1818> &
William <1820> at Camborne.
In addition to this a family of Michell have been found as neighbours to
Thomas Cocking & Elizabeth Dunstone at Roscroggan,Illogan,CON,Eng per the
1841 Census.
This has just been found and more work will be necessary, but it tends to
indicate that Thomas Cocking (m Dunstone), has a potential sister Ann
Cocking (m MICHELL) as above, aside from his possible brother Stephen
Cocking (m Prideaux).
However, its early days on this new (to me) finding.
It should also be noted that Copper mining in the Illogan & Camborne area
is quite a prosperous occupation per population growth statistics, which
tends to indicate the family of Cocking currently in focus may be much
larger ca 1770's and later.
Preliminary research of Ann Cocking just like Thomas & Stephen is a dead
end via the IGI. Again I suspect it is information we cannot see due to
Illogan,CON christenings only being available online to 1773.
Regards..Phil
