Hi. I am looking for any help in finding info on Mary Cocking who married a William Carne at Crantock, Cornwall, England on 4 March 1820. Mary died 5 Dec 1849 at East Newlyn aged 58 yrs. I have no birth/christening/parents for her as yet. William was born 7 November 1792 and died 20 November 1864 at East Newlyn. Would love any help to find more info on this couple.
Irene in NZ
I am interested in descendants of William COCKING and Ann SHAW, married 24
Nov 1775 in Nottinghamshire. I am descended from his daughter Elizabeth (born
1782) and have information on that line and also information on the family of
George COCKING and William Farrow COCKING, his son George was Elizabeth's
younger brother. She was born in 1782, married William THOMPSON in 1804 in
Thorney..
I will appreciate any help you can give me.

Subject: Cocking & Bathsheba Martin
Hi Bob & List.
This is my first posting to this list so some brief backgrounding is in
order.
I am *not* related to any Cocking that I know.
But, I am researching and documenting Cocking and related of Camborne &
Illogan,CON,Eng for a Rod Bowden ( Victoria,Australia ) who has a family
connection.
Rod Bowden is not on the internet and his tree linkage traces back to :
.Thomas Cocking m 14 Mar 1812 Camborne,CON,Eng - Elizabeth Dunstone.
I have previously databased Rod's material on Thomas Cocking - Mary Ann
Williams line who emigrated to Sth Australia and further enhanced this
material with additional research. However this information was database
input in an abbreviated fashion per Rod's instructions. To my knowledge it
remains in this state while we have enhanced other lines.
I should also note that I have reviewed and copied key items from the
Cocking list archives.
Ok to some initial questions in case of unknown "off list" activities :
(1). for Bob Wareham - have you obtained the family details of Bathsheba
Martin ?
Reason - I may be able to help based on my recent research of the 1841
Camborne Census & Camborne christenings.
(2). Has anybody obtained a copy of the marriage record (certificate from
the GRO) for Thomas Cocking & Elizabeth Dunstone, & if so, what does it
reveal ?
A final point is that I have James & Bathsheba (nee Martin) Cocking as
*resident with* Thomas & Elizabeth (nee Dunstone) at
Roscroggan,Illogan,CON,Eng from an online transcript copy of Piece
HO107/142 (part 3).
Admittedly no family relationships are shown in 1841 Census data, but on
the basis of the above I believe there is a high probability that James is
the eldest child of Thomas & Elizabeth...at least until the contrary is
proven.
Plus, I believe in the Roscroggan,Illogan location that the other Cocking's
are likely related with this family being of a Stephen Cocking - Jane
Prideaux, and Stephen being a potential brother to Thomas (m Dunstone).
NB : I also have Rod Bowden's permission to pass on his snail mail address
to those researching the same lines, which will be done off list, for
obvious reasons.
Ok folks, thats enough to start or re-start the ball rolling.
Regards..Phil ( Caulfield,Victoria,Australia )

I am in Melbourne and my husband is related to the COCKING family. Details
of the marriage
between Thomas COCKING and Elizabeth DUNSTONE are -

Cocking of the parish of Illogan, Miner and Elizabeth Dunstone of this
Parish, Spinster were married in this Church by Banns this fourteenth day of
March in the Year One Thousand Eight Hundred and Twelve. Both signed by
their mark, in the presence of Anthony Mitchell and Mary Richards (Mary
Richards was witness to previous two marriages and many others in the
Register).
Details I have from the 1841 census are -

Hi Bob & list..

I believe you have been supplied some of the family details from the 1841
Camborne Census via the Jennifer McReady list posting on 20 Apr 2003.
The only difference I have to this as stated..is..
I have James & Bathsheba (nee Martin) Cocking as *resident with* Thomas &
Elizabeth (nee Dunstone) at Roscroggan,Illogan,CON,Eng from an online
transcript copy of Piece HO107/142 (part 3).
James COCKING married 16 May 1835 Illogan,CON - Bathsheba MARTIN.
IGI reference [M052801].
Then to James & Bathsheba we have the 3 children showing on the 1841
Camborne Census.. ie.
. Stephen 6yo <1835>
. William 4yo <1837> & see # item
. James 2yo <1839>.
Plus later there are likely additional children.
# is a match to - William Martin Cocking chr 31 Dec 1836 Camborne,CON,Eng
F: James, M: Bathsheba ..IGI ref [P002071 <1538-1837>]
Note: from 1837 onward we are then subject to Civil Registration...refer
FreeBMD.
Additional child, which seems fairly certain :
. Bathsheba COCKING b Jun Qtr 1845 Redruth Reg Dist, Vol 9, p225 ..FreeBMD.
On this item via LDS FamilySearch - Ancestral File, you will find a birth
date given of 02 Mar 1845 Camborne,CON,Eng to these same parents & an FGR
(Family Group Record ) which takes things further on the COOMBE(s) side...&
which includes a Lora A Coombe b 1874 <no place> Michigan,USA..as 1 of 7
chn b 1862-1879.
I am unable to comment on the quality or otherwise of this material on
Coombe(s) - Cocking...as I have not yet subjected this to independant
research on which you & others in USA may be better resourced & able to
further comment. It is unknown to me when this data was submitted and
whether the submitter can still be contacted.
Potential additional children :
You will have noted the midname "Martin" factor above.
Well on this basis there maybe more children indicated ...eg..
. a Richard Martin Cocking d Jun Qtr 1840 Redruth Reg Dist Vol 9, p1[53]1.
. a Thomas Martin Cocking b Jun Qtr 1847 Redruth Reg Dist Vol 9,p257.
The 1851 & 1861 Camborne Census and near area is not yet available online,
but if otherwise available, may show more on James & Bathsheba's family if
still in the area.
I should also mention that 2 children having a midname Martin have been
claimed on a Rootsweb WorldConnect Project item as belonging to the family
of a James COCKING & Elizabeth MERRATT(sic) - but on which I may beg to
differ at this early stage.
This Cocking family & related are Masons by occupation and per my research
to date have no known Martin connection, & I have liberated Thomas Martin
Cocking from their clutches, on who there is some further data showing on
rootsweb WorldConnect.
I have traced Thomas Martin Cocking's family via 1881-1901 British census data.
There is also a mention of an Eldred Martin Cocking b 02 Jul 1854 in
WorldConnect who maybe another candidate open to question - who I have just
found - died Jun Qtr 1855 Redruth Reg Dist, Vol 5c,p185.
With luck we may be mentioning names on which other list members maybe able
to assist.
Regards..Phil
