Anthony,
I share your problem. My ancestor George Cockerill also come from Hackness - trouble is there are too may of them to know which one is the ancestor!! Too uch information is just as bad as too little.
There are records like Hearth Tax, Window Tax and lists of tennants living in houses that might show the family members and so help narrow the field but I haven't got rounfd to this yet! Even so its a long shot.
Good luck.
Peter

Hi Debbie,
My name in Christopher Cockerill and i live in Rutland, England, about 30miles from Northampton. I have traced my family back to the Cockerills from Gayton, Northamptonshire. So far i have got back to the 1851 census when the following were living in Gayton:
Elizabeth Cockerill 56yrs born 1795 in Grinscott Northant's
Thos Cockerill (son) born 1883 Gayton
Henry Cockerill (son) born 1836 Gayton
Sarah Ann Cockerill (daughter) Gayton
Unity Cockerill (daughter) Gayton
John Cockerill (son) (who is my relation) born 1825 lived here with his wife Eliza Cockerill born 1829 in Long Buckley with their two children Elizth Cockerill born 1848 and their son Joesph Cockerill born 1850 in Gayton.
If you would like to know more please let me know. If anyone can help as to who Elizabeth cockerill's husband was i would be most grateful as he's not listed on the cencus. She is shown as the family head.
Kind regards
Chris
