I received a package from my Aunt with some more information on my Alexander Cockerille, which I thought I would share with you. Hopefully some of you will find a link with your own lines!!
My gr gr grandmother was Mary Elizabeth Cockerille. Her parents were Kathryn "Kitty" Rose, and Alexander "Sandy" Cockerille. They were married on December 14, 1842 in Loudoun County, Virginia. Alexander Cockerille was born around 1812. Alexander and Kathryn had at least four children, and maybe as many as 8 or more. In some censuses they had a large household, but apparently some children were of extended family. In 1870, the US census showed Alexander with a housekeeper, several teenage and grown children and a farmhand, Henry Rose. This Henry must have been related to Kathryn....maybe her brother.
Alexander Cockerille's parents were James Cockerille and Nancy Kitchen. James Cockerille died in 1847 and Nancy in 1842, both in Fairfax County, Virginia. They had twelve children. We know the names of only Alexander and William.
James Cockerille was the son of Benjamin Cockerille and Sarah "Sally" Ashton. Benjamin Cockerille was born in 1731 and died in 1810 in Fairfax, Virginia. We know of three sons, Benjamin Jr., George, and James.
Benjamin Cockerille was the son of Thomas Cockerill and Ann Remey. Thomas was born in 1701 and died in 1778. It is unlikely that he was born in Fairfax, but probably came from further south like Stafford County.
Thomas Cockerille's father was William Cockerille, who is believed to have been born in England. We don't know much else.
Hopefully this will help someone, and maybe even one of you will have more info on one of the names I've provided!!!
