My cousin did some checking in the library today in
Winston Salem NC. REcall that Jarret Auberry was
Moses V Cockerham`s son in law and wife of Susanna
Cockerham. Abraham Hawks was the admis of my GGGGG
grandfather John Stewart and marrie John Stewart`s
oldest daughter Nancy Stewart abt 1784.
Vol. 7
1820. Moses Cockerham witness for plaintiff in William
Lewis v. Abraham Hawks. Proved 2 days and 100 miles.
1821. Jury found for plaintiff and his damage was
assessed at $50 plus costs. Appealed.
Jarrettt Aubrey, Richard Stokes and Thomas Gallion
witnesses for defendant in Hawks v. Lewis. (I guess
Abraham Hawks turned around and brought charges
against Lewis after he was fined in earlier case).

Gail,
I don `t know much about this Cooley line. You knew
Chesley Cockram was in Pittsylvania Co VA right? He
witnessed something there, I think it was Stephen
Heards will. You`ve got these Cochrans, Abner,
Nathan, Edward in Henry, Franklin and Patrick CO VA.
The only thing I know about this Jmes Cooley SR was
that he died ca 1780 in Henry CO VA, his son James Jr
married Martha Patsy Stewart, dau of David Stewart and
Rebecca Hambelton. Rebecca Hambelton`s father was from
Louisa CO VA. David Stewart was the son of James
Stewart who bought land in Pittsylvania Co abt
1766(was Halifax).
I know one other thing, Edward Cochram bought land on
Stewart`s Creek in Henry/Patrick CO VA, he may have
never lived there. But that Creek (Stewart`s) was
where we lived since at least 1774 and could be ca
1760. You`ll find James Cooley over by Isham and
Robert Hodges in Franklin CO VA.

Gail,
I thought it was interesting that a Jacob Cooley was
also in Pittsylvania CO VA, 2 daughters were married
there. Then we have this Cockerham line in
Pittsylvania Co, Abner Nathan, Edward etc., even a
Chesley is there in Pitts CO VA. A James Cooley was
living on Chestnut Creek near these Cockerham`s
(present day Franklin CO VA). James had sons named
James, John and Jacob. James Cooley JR married Martha
Patsy Stewart abt 1786. My Stewart line matches the
DNA of this line. Most of this Cooley line went to TN.

Before I get yelled at this does Contain Cockerham
Jacob and Sarah had six Children.................{this is Cooley}
A. Nancy Cooley b. 175? d. before 1811
B. Gleasey Cooley b. 175?
C. Elizabeth Cooley b. 1758 d. 1852
D. Jacob Cooley Jr. b. 176? d. 1825
E. Sarah Jordan Cooley b. 176? d. before 1842
F. Juda Cooley b. 1776 d. 1838
This is the exact same Juda Cooley who married 1St. Daniel Cockerham who
died in Surry NC brother of Hez. b. 1762
She married 2nd. Jesse Sparks who also died leaving her a widow with two
Sparks children a son and a daughter.............it was the will that Jesse
Sparks left that helped put together some of the Cockrum
tree................also the fact that years later the Husband of the Sparks
child {the female child of course} who filed suit against Hez. and Juda over
ownership of slaves!
That said:
A. above Nancy Cooley b. 175? Cumberland Co., VA; d. before 1811 Greenville
Co. SC: 1st. married May 19, 1779 Pittsylvania Co. VA., David Reece, d.
before 1810. Greenville Dist. SC (watch out there must have been two who
died there as one died in 1823) Anyway they had at least two children:
A. James Reece b. 1780 d. 1820
B. Jacob Reece b. 1785 d. Nov. 9, 1873
Then Nancy above married 2nd time:
Greenville Co., SC William Holliday, b. Feb. 7, 1764 Columbia Co., Georgia
d. After 1856 Greenville Co. SC........................................
Now this gets a bit tricky here:
William above the 2nd husband of Nancy Cooley................he married also
a second time,
About 1811 to Sarah COTHRAN
DO ANY OF YOU KNOW WHICH SARAH COTHRAN THIS COULD BE?
This above William Holliday
Volunteered under Capt. Walker in Wilkes Co. GA in the American Revolution.
He marched to Augusta, GA and was there at Elijah Clarks
defeat..............................................I have more on this!
Can any of you connect into this?
If so e-mail me ASAP I may be able to help you some!
Gail embracer(a)pineland.net
"The Scots-Irish were brewed in Scotland, bottled in Ireland, and uncorked
in America!"
Can anyone out there connect into either of these two men at all?
John Cockerham b. Bet. 1779-1811 nothing at all more on him except that he
was the son of Humphrey Cockerham 1732-1742 timeframe son of Daniel Sr. and
Fran {possible Frances his wife}
Also do any of you doing Cockerham or any such spelling connect into these
lines at all?
Acker
Barber
Chapman
Chasteen
Cooley
Hawkins
Jordan
McCrory
Milam
Ownes
Poor{e}
Reese
Shackelford
Vincent
Walker
If so please e-mail me and tell me how these names join into your Cockerham
line.
I have another sourse that may help shed some light on this!
Gail
Gail,
What was the name of Sarah Colley`s father, do you
know? There was a Cooley line in Henry/Franklin CO VA
and also in Surry CO NC.

Do You Yahoo!?
Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around

No one & no line will be left out! However, information on the Daniel
Cockerham line needs a lot of documentation if the smaller lines are to connect to
this line at the proper place using DNA computations.

I was just informed that the Daniel Cockerham line will not be included.
Even though we have openly submitted all proof to back up our words and what
we have and it all pans out in plain
sight..........................................
I and another 1st. cousin paid for James Wiley Cothran Jr. to take part in
the DNA Kit #39840 Which shows that we do indeed go back to Daniel
Cockerham without a doubt!
We HIDE
nothing................................................................
Because of confusion of (1) person...........................Who does not
contain a drop of Cothran or Cockerham
blood..........................................our any spelling for that
matter, as I am told that person was Adopted. Which don't get me wrong, I
am open to acceptance.
What I am not open to, is being left out unless I do someone else work and
show them where they fit in. I'm sorry I have no problem in helping anyone
but burned records that were destroyed back in the 1700's is not MY FAULT!
I tired for years to help this person, but this person does not work well
with others at all!
SO...................................Some of us who do have Cothran,
Cochran, Cockerham or what ever blood in our veins, are being left out!
That's fine, Thanks a lot guys!
Have a good day, I will trouble NONE of you
anymore...................................
I have not been as active as I normaly am, I'm sorry about that. We have had
several back to back deaths in our families of late.......................I
did not wish to complain and drag down others!
PLEASE don't try and ask me for names about the above STATEMENT.
I want stoop that LOW!
