Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Ok I'll shoot for both and see which one works out best on this end.

Gail, LVA has the PITTS CO VA P P tax list starting at 1787, too late. You
would probably need to chek FHC or get in touch with the courthouse in
Chatham.

Gail, the 1st time I see Cheadle is on Stephen Hurt`s/Heard`s will, Pitts CO
VA, are you familiar with that? I just figured old Cheadle may have found
himself in GA with the rest of the Hurt`s/Heard`s. So for me this is
Cheadle number 1, the first time I run into him. I would suggest if anyone
could order the Pittsylvania Co tithes for 1770-1776, that this would be a
big help. I cannot I live overseas, but they are available and not by book,
but on film. Or if anyone lives close enough to the courthouse in Pitts CO
VA they could get them there. I know they are there, I have sent my cousin
there to look and she got the Stewart`s for me. Also, a man from the
Halifax Co Courthouse has just finished trancribing all the records for
Halifax Co, now they will go to the LVA. I think he is working on Charlotte
Co now.

What Henry are you speaking of, I am lost here. I am familiar with ESTES,
as a matter of fact anyone who was living near that Abner or William
Cockerham in Henry CO VA 1782, I can tell you about them. I have both the
Henry Co early deed books, plus the first Pitts CO VA deed book. This tax
list, you don`t know how much I have studied it looking for clues to my John
Stewart (1st Stewart on the list) for the past 8 years. I have also
studied every single Stewart line in that area, plus all their neighbors.
You know some of those Henry Co Cockerhams were later in Franklin CO VA in
1786, but one Edward Cockerham, bought land on Stewart`s Creek, which fell
into Patrick CO VA in 1791, and was minutes from the Surry CO NC line. My
Stewart`s lived on Stewart`s Creek. Cheadle Cockerham was in that area, he
witnessed Stephen Hurt`s will in Pitts CO VA. Did Cheadle go with the
Hurt`s to GA? See, it´s all one interesting mess.............

Gail,
We are in the capital, San Salvador. El Salvador is next to Guatemala and Honduras, we only have the Pacific Ocean coastline. YES. We have had a no stop 5 days of rain here. It was so bad yesterday that my kids were evacuated from school by noon, the road leading to their schools was having land slides. By 2:30 pm that road was closed until midnight. I could hardly leave my house yesterday, the roads were flooded. This is not a flat country, it has high altitude and mud slides. It is mountainous, that`s why we grow some of the best coffee in the world. PS it`s not hot like Panama, Panama is very humid and sticky.

Co now.

Teresa,
This is Henry from the William Winn Cockerham line according to Peggy B.
Chapman.
Notice the many different Estes listed also!
Plus the use of
Hezekiah, Lodewick Peggy said the "e" should not be there and that she
thought that this man may have been the father of the two men of this
surname who married into the William Winn line also!

Actually, either. I've been tracking Rita and talking to Huston, Austin and
Alexandria, LA most of the day. I'll get there!
Thanks!

Larry,
The main point I was making is this:
This book or what ever it is has BOTH Daniels married to
MARTHA....................according to this book there never was a FRAN!
And Thanks for the Compliment I know I have the Two men seperate and correct
in my data base!
I have now for a very long time and according to an off list letter from
Frank as he is not on the Cockerham mail list according to him. I don't
need to change a thing in what I have documented. It is correct and goes
along with what we all did.

All this is correct to the best of my knowledge. The placement of Humphrey in the article, if I remember correctly, is also a bit jumbled, but you have the two Daniels pegged.
Daniel Sr. wrote will 1765 with inventory after his death in 1767. He was married to Frances
Daniel Jr. died 1772. He was married to Martha, who later became Martha Pigg.
Humphrey and Chesley were the sons of Daniel SR.

Found in Pioneers of Old Frederick Co. VA by Cecil O'Dell 1995
Walsworth Publishing Company
p. 254 Reads as follows: I added *##* to indicate footnotes will list at
the end pp. 254-255 with ALL footnotes at bottom of this posting however
the org. has footnotes at bottom of given pages.
Glover
William Glover was the administrator of the estate of Edward Glover,
deceased {Probably his Father} In Ornage Co. VA. On 28 July 1741. On 3
July 1736, Edward Glover was a witness to four land sales {deeds} by
William Jollife and his wife Mary in Bucks Co. Penn. *171* At Edward's
estate sale, William Glover purchased hourses, cows, and misc. items
including: six calf skins, 176 pounds of nails; 409 pounds of grey deer
skins, nine pounds of beaver and other fur; 30 pounds of drist leather; a
large parcel of thread and brass, 11 gimbletts {small tools for punching
holes}, some knitting needles and mohair; buttons, pins and needles; seven
pieces of tape and remnants; remants of carsey, sowing silk, silk laces, two
remnants of callico, two pieces of gustin and two pieces plus a remnant of
douglass. Evidence suggests from these items that both Edward and William
were tailors and furriers, fashioning leather coats and leather breeches
(trousers). *172*
William purchased 215 acres from Thomas Rutherford on 28 April 1742;
this land was located on teh east side of the main road from the Potomac
River to Jost Hite's land. *173* (Tract 56A, Map 7....sorry I did not get
the page with the map) The "main road" is present-day US Highway 522, as
it was before the construction of the interstate Highway 81.
On 6 March 1760, William recieved a Fairfax grant for 355 acres. *174*
Surveyed on 4 Nov. 1752, this land (adjacent east of his 215-acre patent
land) ran along US Highway 17/50. He and his wife Susannah sold the 355
acres to Hugh Lenox, William Scott and John Mitchell (Merchants of
Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania Co. VA) for 214 pounds, 8 shillings on 7
Feb. 1765. *175*
William Glover was deceased by 2 June 1789 when his will (dated 1786)
was proved in Frederick Co. Ct. His will instructed his wife Susannah to
sell the land lying on the north side of the Great Road leading from
Winchester to Falmouth (US Highway 17, southeast to Falmouth, Stafford Co.,
VA). He willed the remainder of his 215 acres to his grandson WILLIAM
COUGHRAN (COCHRAN). Glover also mentioned grandchildren Agnes, Elizabeth,
Mary and Rachel, younger daughters of WILLIAM COCHRAN, SR. He bequeathed
one shilling to WILLIAM COCHRAN, SR., stating in his will, "he having had
enough given him already." Glover appointed his wife Susannah and Grandson
WILLIAM COCHRAN, JR. as his executors. *176* AS executors, Susannah and
William sold the nine acres, 97 poles on the northeast side of teh road
leading from Winchester to Berry's Ferry and to Fredericksburg (adjacent
south of Falmouth), on 3 June, 1789. It was sold to Susannah's grandson
ROBERT COCHRAN (WILLIAM'S BROTHER) for 37 pounds. *177* (part of tract
56A)
A John, Samuel and Robert Glover were in Albemarle Co. VA. where they sold
land in 1747. *178*
WILLIAM COCHRAN SR., was deceased by 1 Dec. 1795 When his will (written
10 Jan. 1795) was proved in Frederick Co. Ct. He listed his second wife
Mary (probably not William and Susannah Glover's daughter) and children
James, Robert, William, Ann (wife of William McKean), Margaret (wife of
Isaiah Curlet), Martha (wife of Benjamin Langley), Agnes, Elizabeth, Mary
and Rachell. He appointed sons JAMES AND WILLIAM COCHRAN and son in law
William Curlett as executors. *179*

Gail
I think that William may have been the father of my John Cockerham, Sr.
Lorris G. Cockerham, Ph.D.
3006 Hinson Road
Little Rock, AR 72212-2712
501-227-4224
Lorris,
This sounds like the William listed in an old book that I saw.
Ok here is what I recall off top of my head:
He is named in this deed of gift thing:
He is given NOTHING at all, it went on to explain that he had been given
more than his fair share already.............................
It named some children for him, he is listed as the Father.
Some of the other names connected into it were:
Glovers and Franks........................as Surnames
It was also full of Cockerhams!!
I copied it if I can ever locate the blame thing. At the time, I found I
did not need it. But it seems now that many on this list
may.....................................
I am looking and will publish it to the list in full when I get my hands on
it again.

Ok, some kind lady has sent me what I now believe to be the pages form the
History of Surry NC book that has come up several times on this mail list:
First I can now using these pages see what was done so long ago that has
caused so much confusion of many.
What someone did was take a Will left by Daniel Sr. and what remains of the
Will which is only the Estate part of Daniel Jr. and combined them into one
document...........................................
The reason that I say this is simple:
This writer has Daniel Sr. and Daniel Jr. both married to Martha!
And both with a son named Daniel.
The only truth in this is that:
YES both of these men had sons named Daniel
The older mans son Daniel is the one whos Estate record such as it is
survived and who was indeed married to Martha and yes did have also a son
named Daniel.......................
This Estate Record is the part of this that goes with the OTHER Court
records found in Halifax surrounding the Widow Martha Cockerham
Who had later became the wife of Samuel Pegg/Pigg seen both ways at times.
The other earlier document is earlier on the film by a few years with many
others being recorded and filmed inbetween...........................
The DATES are much different
The earlier Will of Daniel Sr. which names his son Daniel as his sole
heir.....................has at the bottom of it {The Estate Record that
goes with this will} This will is more complete in nature than the later
Estate Record of Daniel Jr.
This earlier Daniel was shown on records in Caroline Co. VA selling land and
his WIFE Fran {sic} on the deed signing off on dower rights!
Whom ever wrote these pages long ago, mistook these two documents as being
of the same man! THEY ARE NOT
FIND OUT YOURSELF
#1. Go to any major library or some of the smaller ones now do this
