Hi Tammy,
I am a direct descendant of Daniel Stewart Cockerham > Daniel Boone
Cockerham > Hattie Boone Cockerham (my maternal grandmother)... I would
love to have the pictures. My step-mother was born in Wigan, Lancashire,
England and now I learn the Cockerhams are from that same general area
too. Kinda spooky.
Thanks,

Actually there is an abundance (lilterally) of information on various Cockerham lines going back into antiquity in Devonshire, Collumpton, Shropeshire and the area around London plus Barbados which was the stopping point for the Capt. William family since Barbados was a rice plantation started in the early 1600s. Cousin Corbet Cochran Jr. has more information on the Cockerhams in centuries prior to 1600 than any sane person would ever want to review! I don't have a known dog in that hunt. The challenge here, as has always been the case, it to link to any of these families from those we can trace back in the Virginia colony. That has not been done to my knowledge as yet. The folks in Collumpton are the most intriguing to me only because of the repetition of so many given names that our guys in Virginia used in the next couple of centuries. Some of this information is in my Cockerham1 file.

I don't have a clue what's on the cd, BUT Lancaster is the location of the village of Cockerham near the Irish Sea , a few mile south of Lancaster. This village, likely the source of the surname, was settled by the Danes when they drove the Romans out in the 1000s. No reason to suspect anyone by the name of Cockerham lives there today. The village still exists and is doing well, but very few people live there. Mostly sheep!

Does anyone know what information is on the CD for Lancaster Parish, England
--advertised on line?
One of it's content is:
Lancashire: Cockerham - Parish Register, 1595-1657
It says " Lancashire (General & Amounderness & Lonsdale Hundreds) Parish
Records Parish Records. Primarily births, baptisms, marriages, and
burials--provide the best source of vital record information in the
centuries before civil registration. This collection includes parish records
and similar sources in the United Kingdom approximately 1538 to 1837. The
records include baptisms, burials, marriages, tombstone inscriptions,
obituaries, wills, miscellaneous types of records"
Has anyone ever viewed this cd?

Hello All,
I am trying to find and place on a US Census for 1860 and 1870 Edward A.
Cothrun b. Dec. 4, 1827 {information from family bible} in South Carolina to
William and Mary {Polly} Spillers nee Cockrum
{information from family bible and US Censuses and Will of George Spiller
Sr. of Greenville Dist. SC}
Edward married Miss Mary A. White of Jacksonville, {Old Benton, Now Calhoun,
Co. AL.} Sept. 25, 1851 {taken from family bible and Old Benton Co. Marriage
Book, held at Calhoun Co. AL. Courthouse}
Mary Ann White was the child of John H. White and Rachel {Jacksonville,
Benton Co. AL. US Census record 1850}
After this they vanish from sight..........................
I did find J.H. White in 1860 in Carter, Ashley, AR p.o. Hamburg
{same family based on names ages}
I did not find Edward or Mary close by...........................
I do have several newspaper accounts of this man,
In or about 1875 he appears again out of no where in Etowah Co., AL. working
for his brothers Daughter and her Husband as a typesetter for the Gadsden
Times Newspaper...........................
It lists him as this relationship to Mrs. Meeks several times, plus the
family bible would show further proof of this.
It states in these old articles that he travled to Centre, AL in Cherokee
Co. quite often,.......................his Mother and siblings lived there
at that time...............I have all of that!
It also states that he travled to Hamburg, AR to visit with his children.
The main one of interest to me was the one in Dec. of 1875 just prior to his
death the following year in 1876...........his obit also ran in this same
paper...........however NO mention at all of any children or a Wife????
What happened to Mary A. White nee Cothrun?
Who were their children?
Does anyone have any answers for me, even remote ones?
Gail Moore embracer(a)pineland.net
Billie,
I think some of William D Cockerham`s line out of Buncombe CO NC went to Ark and then Red River TX.

Dr. Lorris Cockerham and Butch Cockerham are heading a Y-Chromosome DNA
testing program, enabling us to establish linage for some of the Cockerham lines,
possibly reaching back to England. A Phylogenetic Family Tree will be
constructed and given to us. This project is done by Family Tree DNA, backed by
the Molecular Lab for Science and Evolution at the University of Arizona, one
of the five leading Y-Chromosome universities in the world. Family Tree DNA
has been selected by The National Geographic Society to manage the 100,000
person Genographic Project to trace the migration of man.
The Y-Chromosome, in the nuclear DNA of every living male, is virtually
identical to that of his father, his paternal grandfather, etc., and is carried
by male cousins of any degree of relationship that share the same male
ancestor. It creates a clear set of genetic markers, known as a haplotype, that
distinguishes one male-to-male lineage for another.
There are three levels of "genetic marker" testing provided by Family Tree
DNA. The 1-15 Marker Y-DNA Analysis, The 16-25 Marker Y-DNA Analysis and The
26-37 Marker Y-DNA Analysis. The larger the number of markers, the more
certain we can be in determining the Most Recent Common Ancestor (MRCA). In the
Cockerham Project almost 25% of the members have requested the 37-marker test
to trace back all the way to England, a time-distance of 400 yrs or more.

Subject: [COCHRAN] ? about Hezekiah Cochran b. 1803 SC
A posting from June 3 mentioned Hezekiah Cochran b~1803 Greenville County
SC. Does anyone have siblings of this man? I am tracking a very elusive
John Cochran b. 1793 SC, d.>1850 census of St. Clair County AL. He married
Betsy Cockrum Feb. 1830 in Hall County GA. Children were Sarah Emaline,
George W., William R., Collins, Lucinda and John B. (all b. between
1833-1849).
My line, from Collins as my great-grand, became Cockrum, then Cothren by the
time they reached TX. Brothers George and William remained in the AL/TN
area and became Cothern. Both girls ultimately landed in Pope County AR
(Sarah spent some time in OK). Youngest child John appears to have remained
Cochran. Need to place John Cochran b. 1793 with a birth family. Lots to
share downward. Thanks! Helen Wall
