Tammy,
This is the first that I heard about this. However, Brambley was the name
of John Cockerham, Sr.'s first wife. We first thought she was Cherokee but
more than likely she was Catawba.

Lorris or others,
What is the Bramlett Cockerham connection? Would this connecton have been
around Greenville SC? Does anyone have names and dates of the Bramletts
and/if so, who did they marry from the Cockerham line?
Thank you very much,
Tammy
I think he is identical with the Benjamin shown on the 1748-50 title lists from Lunenburg. Also must be related to Phillip, Henry and others on that list. Do you have my Cockerham1 file?

I recently joined the Cockerham DNA ( and similarly pronounced surnames )
project and it showed results that has confirmed my belief that my
Benjamin
Cockram of Morgan Co. arrived
1806/7 d. 1815 was the same person as Benjamin Cockerham of Lunenburg and
Mecklenburg Counties, Va.
I matched 12 for 12 on the 12 marker test that were identical with
about 5 of the men with Cockerham surnames and 24 or 25 on the
25 marker test. Meaning same ancestor many(x10) centuries ago.

There was a Hannah Cochran in Abbeville Dist. SC who filed for a Rev War pension for her deceased husband Benjamin Cochran, a rev war soldier from Meckelenburg CO NC. It says Benjamin died in 1819 and that they moved to Abbeville Dist. around 1804. If you have access to an on line library and have a library card, you can search every single one of them on Heritiage Quest.

Butch,
Thank you for your quick response. Do you have any idea if John
Cockerham, Sr. had any other possible sons in addition to Thomas and
David Bent and what would be possible birth dates for these sons?

Katherine, actually its my wife Linda Sue who is the Cockerham. She has a brother, Steve Cockerham, a sister, Carolyn (deceased), a half sister, Anne DeBorde, and a half brother, Frank DeBorde (deceased). Linda's father was Marcus Ivory Cockerham. His father was James Elbert Cockerham who was a son of James "Little Jim" Patterson Cockerham.
The distance from where you live to Princeton, WV is around 200 miles (figuring you would connect to 77 and then just stay on 77 until you get to Princeton. At least that looks like the most direct, high speed route.

Thanks so much for your reply , sound like fun, I well see if I can make the trip this year , I have alot going right now, I would love to have meet frank Cockerham , he was the first person I contacted a little over 5 years ago, I went to Wilkes Co, Nc and did some research and found a small file from Frank Cockerham in the genealogy library, I wrote to him by regular mail , he was a great help, , I would love to have a copy of his file on the Cockerham"s, how are you related to the Cockerham ? again thank you , I live in Simpsonville SC, how far do you think I am from Princeton, Wva, Katherine

Katherine, I think you would enjoy the reunion. It is held at Glenwood Park in Princeton, West Virginia (take 460 to Courthouse Road and then the first left...near Bluefield. There is a set of large cabins and the reunion will be in one of them...should be a sign on the door. The reunion is scheduled for 2 and 3 July. The main portion is on 2 July and on 3 July is a religious service. They ask that everyone bring enough food for their family and a little extra to share. Last year they had a tremendous amount of food! If weather permits, there is going to be a bonfire Saturday night with a good deal of talking and marshmallow roasting. Everyone was very friendly and a number brought photographs. Frank Cockerham came up from Florida and brought not only photos, but also his genealogy data base and spare copies of it. There are motels in the area, but we found that the bed and breakfasts were actually less expensive and much more comfortable. They are planning on prep!
aring a Cockerham Family Cookbook and asked that everyone bring a favorite recipe. If you would like, it is absolutely no trouble to send a copy of the reunion announcement.
Look forward to meeting you,

I noticed that as per my earlier message! Grandpa never used an e on his name by the way. I posted all those folks just in case some of these gentlemen want to expand the experiment later on. Again hope you are well and enjoying all this research activity. We will at the very least learn if any of the longer family trees are in the same woods. I hope someday we can do a genealogical link to an individual so we will know how we relate if in fact any of these various families do relate. Please give my love to Linda whom I would like to meet sometime!

Frank Cockerham's DNA kit came back in today. He's one of the 21 members of
the project. Give him a call at 321-254-4819. And yes, he does live in
Melbourne, FL.

Lorris,
I don't think he was the son of Humphrey. Take a look at the 1800,
NC, Wilkes Co, Morgan Twp Census for Barsheba and also look at the
1800, NC, Surry Co, Salisbury Twp for William Cockerham.

Lorris, I would call him but you know I live overseas. If someone hears from him could they ask him how is related to my GGG aunt Valina Stuart? Tell him I am a cousin of Senator Robert Hawks of Montana. He knows him.
Thanks,
Teresa

Look forward to meeting you,
Dave

Hi David; Sorry about the late reply from May 5, Can you tell me about the Cockerham Reunion in July, where and when in July, I am related to both sets of Cockerham"s Thanks Katherine

I know that most folks that attend it are from Marcus Lafayette's line, but it certainly is a pleasant experience.

> That's great again! By the way, the genealogical link between Charles and Frank Cockerham is solid. Our common ancestor is James Patterson Cockerham 1833-1922. James Patterson Cockerham was the great grandson of Daniel Cockerham Sr. who died in 1767. Frank is a descendant of Marcus Lafayette Cockerham and Charles is from Marcus' brother James Elbert Cockerham.
