Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hello Harold. I don't have any Cockerham connections in Arkansas at all. Probably a better question for Lorris. I noticed that you have recently picked up another dna result from a person listed on the chart as a descendat of Daniel Sr. His numbers are obviously close to the guys I know. Can you give me any more information so that I may contact the source?

Ok guys this goes back to Old Moses Holland, Father of Thomas Holland who
married Elizabeth Cockrum daughter of Hezikiah Cockrum and goes stright back
to Daniel Cockerham from there!
This data contains a lot of different names........................seems the
researcher who did this work followed a line into AR so this may or may not
prove helpful to some of you with Cockerham lines there!
Like all the others.................it would seem that these good folks
intermarried over and over again also..............It also contains a STRONG
KING line.
Hope this helps also!

Take a good look at this, Could this perhaps not be Holland that connects
into Cothran and also could this Jeff Hankins not be instead a Jeff Hawkins?
Mixed all in with White?
I'm going to check out the link myself and see. Thought some of the rest
may want to do the same who can't quite connect yet!
Hope this helps some of you,

There are DNA testing discounts available for 2 people for $30 off that can
be used from now until the end of December. They apply only to new y-DNA
tests 25 or 37 marker.
Any new lines interested?
Tammy
Well his wife was b. 1792 so I would have to guess some where in that
neighborhood unless he was an older man that she married.
I don't have much of anything on them at all. Just that she had married
Miles Jennings is all.
Does this help at all?

Gail please don't be confused. I'm your cousin through Daniel Cockerham Sr. who died 1767 in Halifax County, Virginia. He's the guy who wrote his will in 1765. What little confusion there has been over the past 30 years or so comes from the fact that many of these fellows and gals had the same first names and lo and behold at least two separate lines (one from my Daniel and the other from the older John of Lunenburg) moved into the Surry County, North Carolina (later Wilkes/Surry) area a few miles apart at about the same time during the American Revolution. The main characters that made this move and heads of very large families were my Humphrey Cockerham of Wilkes who was Daniel Sr.'s son and David Cockerham of Surry, a descendant of John Cockerham Sr. and Jr. or Lunenburg. Also adding to the challenge is the fact that Halifax and five or six other counties were part of old Lunenburg County, a fairly loosely defined area in southeastern Virginia. As I understand several of!
you are descendants of Hezekiah, son of Daniel Cockerham Jr. who died in 1772. Those are some of the reasons I keep the Cockerham1 file that Shara fusses about.

Remember folks there were 2 (TWO) John Cockerhams of Lunenburg. One is the ancestor of David Cockerham and the others who lived in Surry County, North Carolina. This guy was born around 1700. The other is Lorris' and others ancestor who was born about 1735 and lived 108 years. These are two different guys. While I welcome and am interested in information on both, they are not yet linked (I doubt it will be long, the way this is looking) to my Joseph Cockerham line.

Tammy,
Don't know if you noticed it or not due to the difference seen in Spelling
but did you happen to note that Hez and Eliz in my Daniel Line had a
daughter named Martha AKA Patsey that married Miles {Jennins} Jennings?
Could this Miles and your Charity be kin?
I have wondered this when you sent me some of your Data before now?

Larry. It sounds like you're right on track with John of Lunenburg. In
fact, the DNA evidence that we have at this point goes that way also. I hope to
have all results in shortly and to have a report out in February after I
make a trip to Family Tree DNA in Houston to discuss the findings. I took
genetics as a foreign language so I need a little help with it.

Welcome back Shara. I merely pointed out that much information on the David Cockerham family is there, which yes, I've mentioned before. Thanks.

Lorris, are you referring to me below? I'm convinced as I have been for some years that the John of Lunenburg line, if linked to Joseph Cockerham, is linked prior to 1700. That's all. Your dna results continue to make me suspicious and I look forward to eventually seeing some opinions in that regard. The gentlemen I contacted listed on the chart above uncle Charles has not commented or really responded to my query. His results matching so closely to our Joseph guys has me wondering.

Ok folks a tid bit here......................in order to post this tid bit I
have to discuss another line that I do that to date does not connect into
Cockerham except via me!
Hicks Martin.............................this man was a old Country Doctor,
a Minister of the Gospel and a Farmer in Carroll Co. GA.
He never left home and went off to war......................however he is
given credit as having served in the Civil War!
How, he gave what he could to the war
effort.................ie..........food shelter and Medical care to the
wounded. This is documented!
{Ok where is this documented in papers held by the DAR and also in Book
form.............which is footnoted and documented well}
"Hezikiah's granddaughter stated he served in Revolution War and after the
war drew his land 10 miles below Greenville courthouse and raised his family
2 miles from Reedy River. {see Elizabeth Cochran b. 1796} No Rev. service
record had been found and he was not listed on the 1840 census as a Rev.
soldier." per Peggy B. Chapman
Ok
This Elizabeth Cochran {note the spelling used here} was Elizabeth Cockrum
b. Feb. 28, 1796 who married Thomas Holland..................
They ended up at least part of this line did in Georgia, Hall Co, Burke Co
and Carroll Co., & Chattooga Co.
This UN-Named here Granddaughter would have been:
Mary Ann Holland, Emeline Woodward Holland, Martha Ann Elizabeth Holland, or
Harriet W. Holland, for it could not have been Elizabeth the Mother of these
for she would have been the DAUGHTER of Hez. not the GRAND-Daughter.
I am also working with Holland researchers on this.
QUESTION:
Could it not be possible that this is how old Hez. drew land also, that
perhaps he did not leave home and serve but in some way CONTRIBUTED to the
efforts and therefor drew land?
Or did he have a son who did and died and he drew because of his loss of a
Son?
Anyone have any ideas on this thought?
Gail
Ok I am from the Daniel Cockerham line for sure Now that Cousin Jimmy's DNA
results are all in.......................................................
However, on the female side there are still a lot of empty holes to be
filled in.
This is the "Page" that I am now on....................................
Back when they were all still in VA......................before the "Great
Move" into the Carolina's!
Sometime around 1778
Reason for use of this date:
"Hezekiah Cockerham, plaintiff, against John Huskerson, Jr. 10 Sept. 1778
case ordered abated"
I believe it was ordered "Abated" because by the time the Ct. Held session
in Sept. 1778 they had moved down into the Carolina's first into Surry NC
and then later on into Greenville Dist. SC
QUESTIONS still unanswered:
1. What was this suit filed for? I mean in the first place?
2. How did they know this John Huskerson Jr.? He lived in
Lunenburg Co. VA not Halifax where they all lived!
3. This Hezikiah is of the Daniel Cockerham line, in fact he is a child of
Martha and Daniel Cockerham Jr. of Halifax Co. VA. BUT who was Martha?
Who was his own first Wife Elizabeth?
When did Hez. marry Elizabeth?
4. Did Daniel Cockerham Jr. take as his wife a daughter of John Cockerham
of Lunenburg Co. VA?
5. Or Did Hez. take as his first wife a Daughter of this same man?
6. Is John Cockerham of Lunenburg Co. VA in some way kin to this John
Huskerson Jr.? Was John's wife a Huskerson and then Hez or Daniel married
woman born of that Union? Making them Huskerson kin?
There just has to be some reason for Hezikiah to go into another County to
file suit against this man? It makes no real sense to me at all?
Is this just me or do others on this list find this of interest also?
In the meantime, "back on the farm" I have a new contact!
He is a Huskerson Researcher who had a John Huskerson in Lunenburg Co. VA
during this timeframe.........................................
I will keep the group posted on what I learn.........................it may
be that we DO CONNECT in some way just not in the way some of us first
thought!
Keeping in mind cousins marrying are not that strange thing during this
timeframe..............after all Hez. and Eliz's youngest child married her
own 1st. cousin later on in Greenville Dist. SC!
Even Old Hez. married his Brothers Widow!
So why then would it be strange to imagine that perhaps some of the Wives
for whom we have NO Maiden names for as yet.....................to have also
been Cockerham women before marriage.
IN my family bible handed down to me over the years..................all of
the women in this bible are listed by their maiden names EXCEPT
Elizabeth First wife of Old Hez........................WHY?
Could it have been because she was a Cockerham before she became a Cockerham
man's bride? Therefore no reason to list her twice by that name!
Any thoughts other than mine on any of this?
Gail
But he admits that the John of Lunenburg line is not part of the Daniel
Cockerham, Sr. line!
Rejoice for small things!
