Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Fellow Researchers,
I was contacted today by rootsweb to assume the responsibility for the
COCKRELL list. In the recent past Harold Helm has had that
responsibility. I do not know the entire story but from what I can
determine Harold has been relieved of his responsibility by Rootsweb.
For those that do not know me I was the original owner of the Cockrell
list. My rules for the queries and postings are quite simple. We have
no set rules other than freely post your information without fear of
intimidation. I will attempt to settle all disputes with tact.
You are free to post to your fellow researchers thru the list.
The goal of the list is the free transfer of information. Remember that
this is your list. It can only be successful if you post.
As you may have noticed that I have sent this email to a competive list
COCKEREL-L. Some of you are on both lists. Not all members are on both
lists. I will be integrate the members into one list. This will be
less confusing. Until I announce that this has taken place please post
to both lists to get maximum coverage.
I am looking forward to expanding our membership. Please contact others
that may share our research goals. They will be readily accepted.
If anyone has any questions you can post them to the list or contact me
at kytrace(a)worldnet.att.net. I am very much anxious to working for you.

Cousin James,
It is indeed painful to relate to you, our sad, sad bereavement. Our
dear and affectionate father, our best and truest friend on earth was taken
from us last Sunday night. We are left Fatherless and Motherless, Oh! what
a loss, but its their gain, I believe. It is hard, but God has some good
motive, though we cannot see it. He was taken so suddenly and died so
quick, was sick only three days, had a violent attack of the flusc, with
very high fever, and Sunday morning after his fever began to subside he
seemed all at once to be perfectly prostrated and was sinking, oh! how heart
rending. After that he would say nothing, he left us without telling us one
word. Only tried so hard to talk, only a few words we could understand, yes
no and our names. He was conscious, I believe, until the lst. William and
Harrison were not at home, gone off to the wars, were on their way to
Virginia. Mr. Beauchamp went up to Corinth for them, but they had left. He
ten telegraphed to Chattanooga Tenn. They got home Wednesday nigth after he
was buried Tuesday; what a shock it was to them, so unexpected. They were
with him that day one week ago, apparently in fine health. Life is so
uncertain and we might all be ready. Indeed, hoome is not home without
hiim, and there isn't anything that doesn't remind us of him, I can't bear
to see his wheat, he thought so much of it. Can't you come to see us? What
a source of pelasrue it would have been to father had you come to seen him,
he was greaving that he did not see uncle Burr, not quite 2 months
difference in their deaths. Only one brother left, Uncle Moses, he looked
to be in fine health. Come to see us if you can William will stay at home
but Harrison is on furlow, will return to his company tomorrow week, wish he
could stay with us. I think we aught all be together as much as we can, but
fate forbids. I must teach & Rebecca must go to school so that leaves Mary
with 3 boys at home. Cousin, please excuse this but I feel so badly I
cannot write more nor better. Hope I will hear from you soon. Why didn't
you answer my letters? Affectionately your cousin, Annie
Happy 4th of July Cockrell Family,

Tom, I'd love for you to post stories of your Grayson Co, KY Cockriels. You

Holly,
You will find that the Cockrell, Cockerille, Cockriel, Cockrill, etc . name
has changed time and again over the years. The spelling you use today, may
or may not be indicative of the original spelling and/or of the place your
Cockerilles originated. In general, most people who spelled their name as
you do come from the VA branch of Cockrells but this is not always true.
Just post what you know about your family and we'll see if we can help you.

Hello,
I'm new to this listserver...was just wondering if there are any out
there who also have the spelling of their last name as "Cockerille"?
Thanks,
Holly Cockerille
Hello Researchers,
The lsit has been quite inactive. I have not unsubscribed anyone and
will not do so without "talking" with the person first.
If you have anything to share it would be much appreciated. If the
activity level continues to be this slow I may be forced to bore you
with the Grayson Co., Ky. Cockriel families. In this family we have no
one of any state or national importance. We have no great stories to
tell, all we have is good honest folks attempting to scratch a living
out of second rate land in Kentucky. Now you don't want me to resort to
that?
