Cocke Listers....esp. Beth of deliaesther(a)att.net ......Appreciate your
recent several msgs to the list; a few years back I discovered details about two
sisters (they were from an O'Reilly family of Louisville) of my g grandmother
who had mar the same man, THOMAS HARRALSON COCKE, in Louisville, KY in late
1800's. I've learned he was a descendant of the Bowler Cocke line. Luckily, I
commenced to learn ever more about your interesting Cocke family....even
found the two vol work, Cocke & Cousins (tried to purchase copy, but found
none--best I could do was have set of microfiche from local Fam Hist Center on file
there); more recently I've been exchanging family details with a Cocke
descendant (from Dallas, TX) of one of the O'Reilly/Cocke marriages.
Whenever things slow down with my own Murphy line research, I know I can
always turn to your Cocke family & readily learn more about them. Small
example: Noted the May/June 2003 Heritage Quest article "Thomas Jefferson & Sally
Hemmings" pg 52-61 in which John Hartwell Cocke's diary entries were cited for
they pertained to the Jefferson-Hemmings issue. See pg 58-9. Thank goodness
at least your greater family members left some items to be discovered later
in time. My Murphy's seemed to have slipped through their lives without
leaving a trace. However, I keep looking. Charlie Murphy near Seattle.

Hi all,
I just wanted to mention two of my websites.
Old Virginia Obituaries, 1790-1940:
http://virginiaobits.homestead.com/
and
Miscellaneous Virginia Genealogy:
http://vagenealogy.homestead.com/
I do most of my researching at the Library of Virginia and there I either note
down or copy records and obits and then later transcribe them myself and place
the information on my websites.
I hope that you find some ancestors on the sites!
God bless,
Beth
