Hi Dolores. This James COCKE, SR. could have been the Uncle of Elizabeth
COCKE (d/o Thomas COCKE) that married William HODGES, SR. of Louisa Co., VA
in Goochland in 1774. This would have made James & Thomas Brothers of course.
The generations therefore would be; First; James and Thomas, Second;
Elizabeth COCKE, married to William HODGES, SR., Third; Elizabeth COCKE,
married to William HODGES, JR. Just speculation on my part.
Best regards, Tim

It is interesting that there was another William HODGES who md. an
Elizabeth. I don't have the maiden name of that Elizabeth, but that
William was the son of Johnson HODGES and Lucy PAGE. I "think" that
this Lucy "may have been" the dau. of Exolheath PAGE of Goochland Co.
????? That's just a guess, however, as there are no records to
substantiate it except that three of Johnson and Lucy (PAGE) HODGES'
children md. PAGEs in Goochland Co..
Are you sure that the William HODGES who md. Elizabeth COCKE is yours?
You pays your money and you takes your choice!!!!

Hi Dolores.
The Deed you send is one that indicates all Thomas COCKE's Children, married
and single, sold this property he left them after his death (because
Elizabeth, married to this William HODGES in 1774 in Goochland Co., VA, was
the d/o Thomas).
There are two William HODGES married to Elizabeth COCKEs in the marriages of
Goochland Co., VA. They are Father, married 1774, & Son, married 1795. I
don't know how the Elizabeth COCKEs are related, but I would think they are.
I hope this is my line; I'm trying to establish it. If I can find the
Children of William HODGES, JR.& Elizabeth COCKE's, and there's a William S.
HODGES b. ~ 1795 as one (they got married in 1795 in Goochland), then I link
up. William S. HODGES was my GGGG Grandfather and married Mary/Martha HALL
in Louisa Co., VA in 1824.
The William HODGES, that was the s/o Johnson HODGES and Lucy Page, was
another William HODGES in the area I guess; there were a lot. I think William
was the most popular HODGES name. When were they married?
With kind regards, Tim Spradling

<< Tim, could they have moved to Louisa Co. in 1779 instead of 1769? It
really looks as though there were two couples with the same names. The

the one William HODGES, JR. md. in 1795 to a Elizabeth COCKE. Note
that the earlier one was married by Rev. William Douglas and the other by
Rev. Charles Hopkins. They might have chosen wives with the same names
just to confuse us. The original land patents might prove this.

Hi Ken. Should have read this before I sent the other one. Seems like great
minds think the same way - LOL. William bought a piece of Property in Louisa
Co., VA called "Attonce" on old Mountain Road (Rt. 640) near the waters of
Deep Creek in 1769; I found this in a book on "Old Home Places of Louisa" by
Claudia Henderson at LVA this past week. I think he went back to Goochland
and married Elizabeth and brought her there in 1774. They sold the property
in 1797; I have the paper on that. Best regards, Tim

Hi Ken. This is above may be mine. I'm trying to find their Children.
8 Dec, 1795. William Hodges, Jr. and Elizabeth Cocke, dau. of James
Cocke. Sur. John Rutherford. Wit. Pleasant Meredith and Mary Cocke.
William is son of William Hodges Sr. of Louisa Co. Md. 9 Dec by Rev.
Charles Hopkins.
This one above is very interesting too.I have seen it and always thought the
date 1774 was a misprint. There is another explanation; What if this
Elizabeth is a neice of the Elizabeth COCKE that married William HODGES in
1774 and William, Jr. is the s/o of theirs. This would make James COCKE the
Brother of Elizabeth too.I've seen crazier explanations - LOL. It says
William, JR. is the s/o William HODGES of Louisa and that's where the couple
were from 1769 to 1799, after coming from Goochland. If this is my line, and
the above situation is correct, I need the Children of William, JR. &
Elizabeth COCKE to connect to my William S. HODGES, b. ~ 1795, who married
Mary/Martha HALL in 1824 in Louisa. They are my GGGG Grandparents. Hope
someone on the list can help/comment.
Thanks a lot Ken. Let me know what you think. With best regards, Tim
