Hello, I am new at the list, and I hope I do it right. I am looking for the
family of Carrie Lenear Cox, b. Jan. 06, 1847, in Montgomery, Ala. It is
said that she married a Yankee Soldier during the Civil War, and was
disowned by her family. She married George Stoner, and they had 6 children.
They lived in Southern Illinois til her death on Feb. 12, 1929. As far as I
know she never had any contact with her family in Alabama. She is my
gggrandmother, and I would like to know something about her family. If
anyone has any information, please contact me at tagh(a)shawneelink.net.
Thanks,
Teresa

Hi y'all!
This is a cry for help.
I'm moving to Kansas for the summer and may not have access to email or
the internet for a while. I need somebody to take over ownership of the
COCKE list for a month or so, at least.
It costs nothing and takes very little time to maintain. Basically all
that needs doing is: write an occasional letter to a new person who is
having trouble with the list, keep an eye on the activity to make sure
all submissions are appropriate, remind folks to submit their info, and
help people subscribe or unsubscribe. Much more can be done, of
course. New taglines can be created, new info can be transcribed, a
bulletin board or a website could be created, etc.
If anybody is interested in taking over for a while, give me a holler on
my private email at <stdklm17(a)shsu.edu>. Thanks.

I am looking for relatives of JAMES WHEELER COCKE. James was married to
CAROLINE ELIZABETH HOWELL in Murfreesboro, Rutherford Co. Tenn ; January
1835. They had my great grandfather JOHN HOWELL COCKE - Oct. 1844. born
in Miss. I think they also had another son named Henry B. Cocke born
1846 in Miss.
(Around Holly Springs.) I have found thier sons in W.P.LANE'S TEXAS
RANGERS
during the civil war; out of Marshall, Texas. After the war John moved to
Memphis Tenn. and is buried there.
My COCKE'S family has surnames of HOWELL, MINTER, DENNIS, COKE in it too.
My grandfather was sometimes called "MR. COKE'".
Any in formation would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thank-you for your time.
