hi there,

captain on board of one of the ships that landed here in africa in
1820 bringing with him the 1820 settlers. I would very much appreciate
ANY info regarding this person if possible.

Hi,
I have noticed that there has been some interest in the surname COCKCROFT
recently, so I will post my names again in hopes that someone will have a
link.
My 3rd g. grandmother was Elizabeth Cockcroft b. 1801 in the Huddersfield
area of West Yorkshire. Her siblings--all born in the same area: William b.
1799, John b.
1809, Ann b. 1805, Henry b. 1808, Hannah b. 1812 and Abel b. 1815.
Elizabeth's parents: Joseph Cockcroft and Susanna Smith m. 1792 at St.
Peter, Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England.
Elizabeth married my g. g. grandfather, William Whiteley in 1818,
Wakefield, Yorkshire, England. They had 6 children: John b. 1819, Joseph b.
1822 (my g. grandfather), Ann b. 1824, Ellen b. 1826, Mary b. 1829 and Simeon
b. 1831. They were all born in the Huddersfield Parish and were baptized in
the Methodist New Connexion High Street Chapel in Huddersfield. William
brought his family, along with some of Elizabeth Cockcroft's relatives,to the
US in August 1842 on the ship Roscoe, departing from Liverpool and arriving
in New York. They went directly to the Racine area of Wisconsin, known as
the English Settlement. The only one who did not come with them, was John
Whiteley, who--I'm guessing--either preceded them to the US (or elsewhere) or
stayed in England.
Any information will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks very much,
Betty Whiteley Feldman

Hi Jane,
This afternoon I had a "job" to do at Halifax Cemetery, and whilst I
was negotiating the undergrowth I came across 2 COCKCROFT
inscriptions.
I hope they belong!

Halifax who passed away March 28th 1914 aged 56 years
Her end was peace
Also the above named James COCKCROFT who died December 8th 1922 in his

Also of Mary wife of the above who died March 15th 1924 aged 86 years"

I'm collecting COCKSHOTT not COCKCROFT :-)
Please don't throw out those references to Cockcroft/Cockroft! I am
researching Thomas COCKROFT m. Susan() either OGDEN 1722 in Halifax.
Their son OGDEN b. 1738 Heptonstall was my emigrant. He married Salley
CROSSLEY and came to America between 1767 and 1773.
