Ginny..My Cockburn ancestors were born in or near Ayr in Scotland. There is no doubt that they were all Scots.

Jan..
If you are still around anywhere, I have more news about my Cockburn family. I am descended from John Cockburn, who came to Castine, Maine with the 74th Regiment of Foot, a Highland regiment that had been in India and was transferred to Nova Scotia and then to Maine to fight the Colonies. They were British forces and the regiment and names of all men in it and names of their wives and children are on line if you Google th 74th Regiment of Foot. That is an Infantry regiment. My John Cockburn is there with his wife Mary Lindsay, as well as Mary's father John and his wife Peggy McIntyre. The three McIntyres in the regiment are my relatives, so the names here are Cockburn, Lindsay, and McIntyre. Later, James Cockburn, the son of John, was born in New Brunsick, Charlotte I believe, and he married Margaret Acheson, the daughter of John Acheson of St. Steven's, NB and his wife Sarah Elizabeth Adams Acheson from Eniskillen, Northern Ireland. I know that my James had a brother !
named John and his daughter Sarah Elizabeth Cockburn (Towle)was my second-great grandmother. I have photos of her and many of her children. Does this tie in with your family?
