Hi Gary,
Thanks for your reply - I'll use your email address to get in touch!
I've found out quite a lot about the family since I posted my original message, and I'd be happy to share that with you. I've also recently done a lot of research into Reginald Bennell (Minnie's husband) - I went to Dunedin and took photos and went through records. Again, happy to share with you - you may have information as well.
Anne

My grandmother was a Cockburn from the borders area in the uk. In this area it was pronounced cobrun rather than burn. It often shows up in records spelt with variations of this (bran, brun, brin) it is not a simple spelling mistake but happens more often when forms are filled in by a third party or official. They've simply spelled it as they've heard it.
It may seem clumsy to try and pronounce it this way but in the local accent it sounds perectly natural.

I'm looking for any information on George Millie Cockburn who came to Australia from Scotland in 1861. He's the son of William Cockburn and Jane Millie. He married Selina Lawson Hodson in 1875 and had 9 children. Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi Dorothy,
My great great grandfather was George Millie Cockburn, a brother of Mary and son of William Cockburn and Jane Millie. I was just wondering if you know anymore on William Cockburn and Jane Millie or the other siblings as i can't seem to find anything. George Millie Cockburn came to Australia in 1861 and settled in Queensland.
Thanks
Michelle Cockburn.
