Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

I am interested in the 1890 book you mention about the Cockburns, etc. Can you provide the title and publisher? Do you know if it is still available, and if so, where it might be found?
My husband was a Cogburn from that Virginia/Georgia/Arkansas/Texas/Oklahoma line that Don Cother referred to. This message board has been pretty quiet the last few years, but was very active back when Don was posting. Perhaps a new source of information such as the book you cite would generate renewed interest....Barbara Rouse Cogburn

The name around 1050 was pronounced Cokburn. Changed to Cockburn in scottish spelling and to coburn in N.Ireland.
There is a book published in 1890 on the complete history.
We were in the Danelaws and when I had my DNA checked found we
came in with the Vikings into Scotland from southern Sweden

There is a book published in 1890 on the Cockburn family.
We go back to the 900's in Scotland. I had my DNA done
and it shows we cam in with the Vikings from southern Sweden.
The name was pronounced Cokburn then changed to scottish
spelling Cockburn then to North Ireland spelling Coburn
