Hello, I wonder if you can shed any light on my ongoing problem with family history please? My father is George Coburn, his dad dropped down dead from the tea table when dad was young, but we know from his marriage certificate to my nana, he was called Joseph Coburn, he was 31 in 1926, so gives us a date of birth around 1895/6, try as we might, we can't find a Joseph and George together in the 1901 or 1911 census, we have no date of death for Joseph but wasn't recorded as deceased on the above mentioned marriage cert in 1926. Dad was told a story that if Josephs mother had taken a short walk while having him, he would have been born a scotsman, and believes them to have lived in Durham. Please any help would be much appreciated many thanks

Hi Ian, it's been 10 years since your last posted. I'm a decendent of the Cockburn's of Sangre Grande, Trinidad in the Carribean. We are related because my grandmother was a Cockburn, Sylvia (Austin) was her married name. Her father was George Cockburn who father was William Melville. So my great, great grandfather is your great grandfather (I think!) I've made connections with a few Cockburns here in the US. My father Kenneth Austin of Port-of-Spain was the first son of Sylvia (Cockburn) Austin. So far I've "meet" Christopher Cockburn orginally of the Sangre Grande Cockburns and Sandra Cockburn who now lives in Victoria, Canada and Brian Cockburn a biology professor at the University in Trinidad. I found most fascinating that many Cockburns are in academia-my father was too. Chris has shared a wealth of information of our family. I've been told William Melville had 3 other brothers that left Scotland for the Carribean. I'm still in search of tracing William Melville's line !
into Scotland. I'll hold your information. Hopefully you are still gathering more information on the Cockburns of Trinidad and the Carribean. Good luck to you and I hope you will reply on here again.
Elizabeth Austin
