Hi David,
The genetic links between the Cockburns, Dunbars, Cockbains and Macmillans are certainly going to make the Cockburn Y-DNA project a bit more complicated, but more interesting to decipher in the longer run. The first priority is to get more Y-DNA testing results for male Cockburns (and the other related families). I'm still working on that problem. There should be hundreds of male Cockburns out there who can trace back multiple generations back through the family. Yes, this is a call for more volunteers...
Bruce

Hi Bruce
Thank you for mentioning me in your message. It is proving harder than at first thought to find living Cockburn men who can trace their family back in the male line any more than a couple of generations.
I am finding the name Cockbain interchanges with Cockburn in Cumberland in the 18th/19th century in several families and therefore extend the invitation to any male Cockbain to join in with the Cockburn surname project. We already have a male Cockbain tested and he is getting 25 marker exact matches with 3 others with the surname Macmillan. There is a very strong indication that the ancestry traces back to Scotland.

There is a Cockburn family living in Spittal from 1841 through to 1901. I know they have a Berwick connection. They are somehow connected to my Burn family. Elizabeth silver
