I am sorry but my focus is Elizabeth FAIRBAIRN and I do not have any specific information on William COCKBURN or any of their descendants, but this is what I do have:
Elizabeth FAIRBAIRN. Her married name was COCKBURN. She was born circa 1821 in Roxburgh, Scotland. Elizabeth, age 20, occupation Mantua maker (a loose gown worn over a petticoat open down the front) appeared in the 1841 census at Primside, Parish of Morebattle, Roxburgh, Scotland, with her parents, her sisters Isabella and Margaret and niece Isabella. (Census 1841 801/00 004/00 005, Scotslandspeople, website). Elizabeth, age 30, occupation Dress maker, appeared in the 1851 census at Primside, Parish of Morebattle, Roxburgh, Scotland, with her parents, her sister Margaret and niece Isabella. (Census 1851 801/00 004/00 006, Scotslandspeople, website). On 5th April 1851 banns were proclaimed in the Parish of Yetholm, Roxburgh, Scotland, for Elizabeth Fairbairn of the Parish of Morebattle and William Cockburn from the Parish of Yetholm, they were due to be married on 18 April 1851. There is only one listing for an Elizabeth Fairbairn at Morebattle on the 1851 census taken 1!
9 days before the marriage so it is probable that this Elizabeth is the daughter of Andrew Fairbairn and Margaret Hunter. (OPR Marriages 811/0030 0098, Scotslandspeople, website). Because of the popularity of the name Elizabeth in the Fairbairn and Cockburn family and William in the Cockburn family and a limited budget, an extensive but unsuccessful search has been conducted, but to date no further identifiable records have been located.
