Hello Jayne,
There may be a problem between our e-mails. Did you receive about 4 or 5 after my first one? I gave your complete ancestry, marriage certificate for John/Nancy Gage, last census for George # !, petition signed by George #1 1797, and some deeds I think.
Did you get them?
I have spam blocker plus and it causes problems sometimes.

Thanks!
I talked to my older sister this morning, she relayed information to me that I was unaware of. My grandfather, Richard Columbus Cockburn's father had been married twice. My grandfather was a result of the first marriage. When his wife died he married a woman that had a "bunch" of kids (according to my sister), my great-grandfather (yes, from the area in GA, as you've indicated.) married a woman that had several children, her husband had passed away too. Apparently, the children from the second marriage were adopted by my great-grandfather and assumed the Cockburn name. As I've indicated in the eariler post, I'm very interested in discovering if ALS, my father (Robert Frank Cockburn), his brother and sister died from, is linked by genetics to this side of the family. However, until around 1990's (when my Dad, aunt and uncle died) deaths were often attributed to other illnesses. I do appreicate whatever information you can give me. My email address is JayneGA(a)aol.com .

Hello again Jayne,
I read your message and I think I've got your line. We're probably distant cousins.
My great grandfather and one of his brothers left Murray Co, GA about 1846 and moved to Montgomery Co, Arkansas. One of their brothers, John (b) c 1800 stayed behind. John's wife was Nancy Gage. They lived near The Old Federal Road and had a watercourse on their land named Nancy's Creek.
I think they had a son named Columbus.
Give me some time to re-locate this info and I'll get back to you via e-mail direct.
Peggy

Thank Peggy! My grandfather was born in Murray County, GA. He was born in Jan 2, either 1900 or 1901.
He is buried in the family cemetary in Whitfield County. I will go by next week to verify his correct year of birth. In addition,I will take photo's of everyone buried there.
Richard Columbus Cockburn died January 1976, in Whitfield County, GA. He was survived by my grandmother Maude Smith Cockburn and their 5 children.
My father, Robert F. Cockburn was born on August 2, 1930. He died on January 11, 1994, Dalton, GA.. Dalton is located in Whitifeld County.

Hello Jayne,
I would like to help if I can. I have done extensive research on the Cockburn(s) of the southern states of USA. Need some more info:
When, where did Richard Columbus Cockburn die?
When, where did Robert F. Cockburn die?
Perhaps we can locate them and connect them to their ancestors through the Federal Census(s).
Good Luck!
Peggy

I have just started trying to establish my family tree, and have little information. My grandfather was Richard Columbus Cockburn, he was born in 1901. He married Maude Smith and they had 7 children, 3 died very young, the other 4 were Donald, Robert F. (my father), Peggy, and Sammy (female).
Unfornutely, my father, his brother and one sister has died of ALS. There is a definite genetic link to ALS in our family, any information anyone has I would appreciate. Jayne Cockburn Bynum

Thank you in advance for your assistance in this matter.

I have discovered a very old piece of paper with what looks like quill ink on it, and it shows birth and death dates for two Cogburn children who I cannot place. Does anyone know where these children might fit into the Cogburn family chart?
Florence Bell Cogburn (female), b. 13 Nov 1894, d. 8 Oct 1895
Carlee Cogburn (male), b. 18 Jul (lived 8 days) d. 25 Jul (does not specify the year).
All of my papers came from Florence Heath Klingler, daughter of Pearl Cogburn Heath-->daughter of Andrew D. Cogburn-->son of James Polk Cogburn-->son of Clark Terrell Cockburn-->son of George Cockburn.
It seems like these children would fall into this line, but like I said, I have never heard of them. If anyone can help me, let me know. Thank you.
Elizabeth

I am interested in getting a copy of the will of John Snyder from "Virginia Wills Before 1799." I only found the text online, and I prefer an original copy or scan. The will was written in Amherst County, Virginia, on 1 Dec 1777. It names his wife Elizabeth; his som John; his daughters Elizabeth, Mary Aaron, Rachel Brown, and Anna Jones; and his son-in-law George Cockburn.
Second, I am seeking a marriage record for John Snyder's daughter, Elizabeth Snyder, and George Cockburn. I have that they were married on 1 Mar 1773, and this was most likely in Amherst County, Virginia. They might be mentioned in the Amherst County Marriage Index.
I would also like a copy of a land deed from John Snyder to his daughter and his son-in-law George Cockburn in 1773 in Amherst County, Virginia. I have been told there is mention of the deed in a book of Abstracts of Amherst County Land Deeds. I would like a copy of the abstract or the actual deed.
If anyone has access to these sources or any has any information about these people, please let me know. Thank you.
Elizabeth
