wish i could give you more info, but all is have is his mothers name: isabel cockburn, and this is on his funeral record. how accurate it is, i don't know. his father is alexander innes of scotland (lot of help that is !) i really know nothing else about his family exept that he claimed he was from dundee. over the years i've wondered if that meant directly from dundee scotland or dundee canada. he claimed that he joined the merchant marines at an early age - 14? - and traveled the world for about 20 years before landing in california about 1870-75. wish i had more, but i just don't!!

Good morning from beautiful Toronto, NSW, Australia! Good to read you - A minor confusion, I think. My immediate Cockburn ancestor is Isabella, who married George Hunter - they were my maternal great-grandparents. Grandfather David Hunter came to Australia as a young single man in 1877, so there aren't a lot of us out here, and the name Hunter as a family name in this family has now disappeared also, except for me and a couple of my cousins who got Hunter as a second forename in the Scottish tradition.
I do have a photograph of George and Isabella - how about writing me and sharing some information that way - drop me a line at PO Box 574, Toronto 2283, NSW, Australia. Will be out of circulation for a few weeks as we are going to Perth, Western Australia to spend Christmas with my son and his family. Cheers, Daryl (Hunter) Lightfoot.
