I am still trying to find the correct family for ALEXANDER COCKBURN INNES. Born Dundee, Scotland about 1849, arrived in California about 1880. I am sure that he had at least 1 brother who may have gone to Australia.
do any Cockburn families recognize this paring?

It's interesting how a search for one thing sometimes leads to discovery of another. While looking through some old family letters for any reference to Clara Frissell (Cockburn) I ran across several post cards from Alma J. Cockburn to Marian Frissell (my Grandfathers sister) and signed "Aunt Alma". This then led to another discovery!! While looking through census records I found Alma J. Cockburn living in the household of Merton Frissell. The 1920 census record described her as Aunt to the head of the house hold. I had discovered a brother that I never knew my Grandfather had!
Another surprise was awaiting. In the 1930 Census Alma is no longer living with her nephew Merton but he is now married to "Nellie Verne Colburn" and they have one child Donald. Knowing that Colburn is a version of Cockburn it might be safe to guess that Nellie is somehow related to Alma.
Does anyone out there have any insight on this or any info. as to who the ancestors of Clara and Alma are??
