Folks,
this is a reminder that any post to a list that starts with the phrase
"This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list."
has been "gatewayed" from the surname Board to the surname List. Simply,
this means
that the original post was sent, in this case, to the COCK Board and,
because
the "gateway" between the Board and List has been opened, was also
automatically
re-sent to the COCK List.
BUT, this means that unless the original Board poster is also a member
of the
List (and most are not), any replies to a gatewayed post sent to the
List will NOT be seen by the
Board poster.
If you wish to reply to a gatewayed post in such a way that your reply
will be
seen by the Board poster, you must do so by clicking on the "Message
Board URL:" link, and reply using the Board response system.
Thanks.

Dear Ms. Raudenbush: I can give you the children's names of Thomas Frederick and Elizabeth Cock. They are:
George baptized 1871 Lewisham, England
Clarissa - baptised 1876 St. John's West
Fred - also baptised in this parish; died from tuberculosis 1918
Sarah baptised 1886 St. Luke's Ashburnham, Ontario
John and William both died in infancy
Daisy born September 10, 1886 - Hamilton, Ontario; died March 1961
Daisy married Howard Henley Weeks in 1909 - they are my grandparents.
Sarah married Sam Hewton in Toronto but don't know much more there.
Clarissa married a McCulloch - have more info on this - have to dig for it.
George ended up living in Atwood, Ontario. I have no clue where that is or even if it exists anymore.
Also have information regarding Elizabeth Durtnall but again have to dig for that. Meaning the Durtnall family as I have e-mailed a distant cousin.
Everything regarding the marriage of Elizabeth and Thomas Frederick Cock corresponds however to be exact they were married at Mission Chapel, Rushley Green, Lewisham, Aug. 28, 1868.
So we are distant cousins - perhaps third or fourth - I don't know which. You might be able to figure it out!

Hello Douglas,
Thank you for your response. This is the information I have:
Thomas Frederick Cock's grandparents were:
George and Elizabeth Cock. Their son John Samuel Cock was born 30 Aug 1816 in the parish of St. Luke's Old Street, Middlesex. He was registered in the non-conformist register page 82 FHL film # 0596965.
John Samuel married Sarah. Their children's birth records and her death record say her maiden name was Hill. There is some question because on the birth record of son George Josiah the name O'Neill is also used. Still checking this part.
John Samuel died 20 Apr 1881. Sarah died 3 March 1857. (GRO records)
Their children:
1 Henry John, baptized March 28, 1838 St. Luke's Chelsea
died 18 March 1851 (GRO and parish records)
2. George Josiah b. 6 Dec 1839 d. 11 May 1897 Denver CO, married Sarah Ann May 29 Oct 1860 (GRO and parish records)
3. Clarissa Elizabeth Cock b. 5 Mar 1843 d. 22 Mar 1852 (GRO and parish records)
4. Thomas Frederick Cock B. 21 Jul 1845 d.???? m. Elizabeth Durtnall 29 Aug 1868 Lewisham, MIddlesex. U.K. Census records 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871, and 1881.
5. William Samuel Cock 15 Jun 1848 d. 19 July 1909 Peterborough ON m. Alice Haystead 9 Apr 1871 Chelsea, Middlesex. (parish record)
My great great grandfather George Josiah Cock(s) came to Canada June 1870. I know that his brother William was in Peterborough by 1880. But I could not find when your ancestor, Thomas Frederick came. It must have been after 1881. And I do not know his date of death.
Many years ago a cousin of my mother was able to rescue an old address book from the burning barrel. In it were some names and addresses of the Cocks family that we have now been able to connect with our family. In the list was your ancestor,Thomas Frederick, his address in Chelsea, birthdate, marriage date and a couple of his children.
I have more information and would be happy to share copies of GRO records and parish records that I have. I continue to search for missing details of this interesting family.
Again I'm thrilled you answered my post.

Has anyone come across a COCK family living in Bow? James moved to Suffolk and he was a carpenter. He married Harriet Beckham and had at least 4 children. When Harriet died he married Maria Larter with whom he lived out his days in or near Wrentham. He died in 1907 and Maria died in 1908. Please does anyone know of his parents or siblings?

Hi Arlene, I am the youngest brother of Elaine Weeks. Thomas F. Cock (b. July 22, 1845) m. Elizabeth Cock (n. Durtnall)b. May 30, 1848 in Croyden, England. Thomas F. and Elizabeth Cock were my great-grandparents.
I have the children of this couple listed in my Roots book as follows:
George - 1871; Clarissa - 1876; Fred; Sarah - 1886; John and William who both died in infancy and my grandmother Daisy Ethel born Sept. 10, 1886 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada who married Howard Henley Weeks June 2, 1909, Old Trinity Church in Montreal, Quebec.
I am one of six children of Albert Howard Weeks, Daisy's son. She had two other children - Doris and Stanley.
I take it Thomas F. named one of his sons George after his brother - your great-great grandfather George Josiah Cock. The date of birth though you have provided for him is listed as the same - 1845 - in my records.
Anything further I can add as I can't here due to space limitations let me know through your post.
Douglas Weeks
