Dear Tony
I read your posting with interest. I noticed your South Australian
connection. My interest with the COCK name comes with my GGGrandfather THOMAS
WATERS who married ELIZABETH ANN COCK in South Australia in 1857. Elizabeth
was born in Cornwall cir 1839. I would be interest to hear if this name
appears in your family tree.

There is a Pedigree resource file on the Family Search web site, put
together by Jacob Cock. It includes:
Thomas Cock bap. Falmouth 1740
married Hannah Thomas (this was in 1769 - Cornwall Family History Soc
records - assuming same Thomas Cock)
Children:
James bap Kenwyn 1769
Mary bap Kenwyn 1772
John bap Perranuthnoe 1778
Joseph bap (no place listed) 1783
Thomas (no place or date)
There are no details in the file for future generations in this branch of
the family but it could well be your one? Worth investigating? Always being
aware that these records need proper verification.
According to the PRF file Thomas is the son of John Cock born in Gerrans in
1712. I believe his brother George (1717) is my 5 x great grandfather.
George' descendents were very much mariners (free trade and privateering, later
coastguard and Royal Navy). However, the lines followed in the PRF move very
much toward the mining trade, particularly around St Agnes, Redruth and Illogan.
I am very keen to prove or disprove the connection between John of 1712
Gerrans and the one who married at Falmouth and had children there and at St
Agnes.
Please keep in touch with any developments you make.
Good luck
Trevor

I too am interested in a Cock family of SE Cornwall. George Cock born 1749
married Jane Greet (probably her 2nd marriag nee Hambly) in 1774 at Rame. We
are confident we have traced George to Gerrans (south of Truro on the Roseland)
and arround that area (including Veryan) for several generations back.
George's brother Michael may also have moved up to Maker or Rame, marrying locally
there in 1776. They were heavily involved in free-trade and privateering.
I have data re Christophers children and will contact you privately.
Trevor
Thanks, Peter, for the roll call. Didn't realize you were looking after both the Cock and the Glanville lists, thanks for that also.
If anyone on the list can help with this brick wall, I shall be for ever greatful.
I have a Christopher Cock married Mary Philp in St. Germans November 1772. Mary was born in St. Germans about 1752 but the marriage entry does not say where Christopher was born. There are one or two possibilities in St. Endelion and Lanteglos by Camelford but how do the rest of you proceed in a case like this? I can't just pick one. I have no siblings for Christopher so am well and truly stuck. Help................please?

Hello, folks,
it's been some time since we've had a roll call, so let's have one now!
Here are the rules:
1. Participation is completely optional!
2. Because I hope we'll have a good response, pls post only the minimum
information necessary, which would normally be:
- surname(s) of interest (with given names if thought necessary);
- date range(s) being researched; and
- location(s) of interest;
unless you think there's good reason for additional information.
3. Don't consider the roll call necessarily limited to only the surname
of THIS list ... sometimes links can be made through multiple surnames
4. If you think you have a "hit" with someone else, pls consider posting
the "hit" to the list as well, in case there's more than one person
interested!
Have fun!
Peter
